Was thinking about picking up two of these spoons. Has anyone had any luck with them? If so, what colors would you recommend? Also can you use them on downriggers, or are they like a bomber type?

I've used them, they are very heavy and sink fast. I've never caught anything on then but I haven't used them much.

The secret spoons are heavy ,with regular bunker spoons I use white . silver, and chart. As far as down riggers I do not know. the spoon needs action which is given by the bend and lift of the rod. The down rigger may not do that. And you might need to set the release so heavy that it might snap the line on a hit. I used down riggers all the time when I fished lake ontario. but with small spoons and stick baits.

Thanks for the info. I just got back from boatersworld. Bought two Luhr's chrome bunker spoons, a 9er's umbrella rig, and a bunch of misc. stuff. Another $80 down the tubes.:D

I fish with them alot. Still havn't caught a bass with them but the gator blues were nailing them pretty good last saturday. I pull the silver and white and blue and white. They sink fast and troll very deep. You need the right type of rod and reel set ups. You need a long rod with lots of action to make the spoon run correctly. I use wire line and an 8 foot rod with a peen senator 113hsp which is made for wire line. I can tell when the lure is running correctly when the rod tip pulsates. That is the key. They do work well i just haven't gotten that monster bass with them yet. Hope this helps. If you have any questions regarding wire line trolling just ask. It;s a learning process that i've gotten down pretty good the last couple of years.

I run them on 113hsp reels with wire line but I use 9 foot Seeker wire line/bunker spoon rods. I've had very good luck with them -- both bass and blues. The good news is all the fish I've caught have been rather large.
