Myself, my dad, my uncle John, my younger brother and my fishing buddy brandon all got out on the boat today...
Cleared Barnegat Inlet at 830AM, sea was extremely calm. Started the troll with green tube umbrellas along IBSP, within 5 minutes of 2 of these hitting the water we had fish on both!
I ended up with my FIRST EVER stripers, 2 shorts at 21" and 19", fat healthy fish. Sent them back to grow up and get bigger.
We were marking fish on the bottom so we started diamond jigging, got into the dogfish (one would come up to the boat to be chased by 6-7 other dogfish) We had one 7-8 lb blue in this mix too.
Back to trolling..... my rod gets slammed! 3 fish on, one keeper! 29", Ill upload the picture from my cell phone when I wake up tomorrow.
We tried chunking bunker and diamond jigging throughout the day with no results, we could only bring up the striped ones on umbrella rigs with green tubes.
Called it quits at 4PM and headed back in.
Tally for the day -
16 shorts, all fat and healthy
1 29" keeper
15+ dogfish
2 BIG bluefish, 1 foulhooked by an umbrella rig.
funniest moment of the day - lets just say me and my brother dont get along when we're on a boat together... one thing led to another, he got between me and a knockdown on my umbrella, i missed the fish, so I whipped a big fat bunker out of the bait bucket and whacked my brother upside the head with it. Never get between me and a hit on a fishing rod!!!
I heard some barner chatter on 68, someone brought up a 38 incher in 57 feet of water?
All in all I had one of the best days out, glad I got my first keeper striper before the end of the fall fishing season for me :D. All the fish were fat and healthy, both bluefish and stripers were gorged on sand eels.
