It has been a banner fall for fishing! The weather hasn't been the greatest, but the fishing has been fantastic!
On Monday, 11/17, we had Joe, Greg, Bob, Dave, and Herb aboard for their charter. With the wind forecast to be blowing hard in the afternoon, we decided to run out in the morning. Fishing was real good. We found several different bird plays, and proceeded to jig and live bait around 30 bass, putting 6 in the box to 35". The weather never really picked up. As Bob, Dave, and Herb needed to get back, we ran them back to the dock and since I had some extra time this day, the guys asked if we could run back out. Another Joe met us at the dock, and we were underway. Once again, we were back on the fish with good fishing that escalated into mayhem towards evening with bass jumping on every live bait, bucktail, and jig that hit the water. As Greg and Joe had kept 1 bass a piece during the morning, they both kept their second fish for their limits, and Joe bagged his limit as well. What a day!
The weather kept us dockside on Tuesday, but on Wednesday we ventured out with Roy Kimble, Dale, John, Walt, Paul, and Mike. Fishing was on fire in a big way! Despite hard 20 to 30 knot Northwest winds, we found bird play after bird play, and the guys had non-stop action catching a load of bass and big bluefish on live bait, bucktails, and metal. When the trip was done, a LIMIT of stripers to 35" was in the box, along with a load of big bluefish from 8lbs to 14lbs. Excellent trip!
Thursday, November 20, had Bill Greenfield, Joe, Joe, Joe, and Jerry aboard for the morning. Arriving on scene, we found no birds, but a MEGA pile of fish on the sonar and before the sun was over the horizon we had five rods bent over on bass. It was all out mayhem for most of the morning. A couple of times, while moving to our next stop, I would put the trolling gear in the water and not get 100 feet before both rods doubled over. At that point, the rest of the crew would cast jigs and hook up...unreal fishing! The guys caught around 50 bass and a bunch of big bluefish, putting their LIMIT of stripers in the box and Bill also had a bonus tag which we filled. GREAT morning! In the afternoon, Marc Sachetta, his father, Jerry, and Joe were aboard. The wind went from manageable to about 30 knots sustained with higher gusts. We did get a handful of bass and a couple of big blues before the fan turned on like that, but after it did that wind made fishing conditions beyond tough so we elected to call it a trip after a couple hours.
Friday, the weather forecast called for 10 to 20 knot west winds increasing to 25 to 30 with gusts to 35. As such, we ran out in the morning with Bob Lutt's charter. Aboard were Ryan, Tim, Rick, and Mark. Once again, as soon as the baits were in the water, rods were bent! The action continued really good, and got even better when some big bird plays erupted. At one point, the guys were in blizzard like snowfall conditions, with bass boiling as far as the eye could see, and rods bent around the boat...it was out of control! Another LIMIT of stripers hit the box, along with some big bluefish today. Crazy fishing!
Saturday's blackfish trip was cancelled with 35 knot Northwest winds, and on Sunday, 11/23 we had Mike Kilgus aboard with Ken, Kim, Jim, Mike, and Matt. We started out togging. Our first drop was fairly shallow, and we nabbed a few keepers and a bunch of shorts. Someone left a throwable, type IV cushion attached to the drop via enormous, 1" braided line??? We were a little puzzled. We made a move to drop #2 and the bite was on big time. Had drop and reel fishing, especially for Ken and Kim who put on a blackfish clinic. Some real nice fish in the 4lb to 6lb range came aboard off this drop. Drop #3 was decent, with a nice steady pick and Matt nabbing a 9lber off this hang. Only needing a couple more fish for our boat limit, we set up on some scattered rubble. The bite was slow here, although we did pick the needed fish. Off that drop and on to our next target - STRIPERS. Got on scene, and Jim got the party started with a keeper right off the bat. Then, we found some birds and between live bait and jigs the guys caught around 20 bass in short order, putting 4 in the box along with a big bluefish. We headed for home with sore arms and a cooler full of fish. Great day, guys!
Today, Greg, Joe, Bob, and Steve were aboard for their weekly trip. What a trip it was! The wind was honking 20 knot South steady, but the bass had their feed bags on in a big way! The live bait and jig bite was insane for the entire trip, and at one point we had bass boiling on top inhaling swim baits and metal. After a morning of non-stop action, the crew tallied an even 60 bass, putting a LIMIT in the cooler plus Bob had a bonus tag which we filled. We also let go several other keepers, too! EPIC fishing! Always a blast, guys!
Thanks for reading! Hope to see you soon aboard the AB3! We have some openings in December, so check out our schedule at adambombcharters.com (http://www.adambombcharters.com) and give us a call!
