Have 30lb spider wire on my bait runner and the last 2 times I used it it seem to just spin on the spool. Does anyone have any ideas for this..

think you should put backing on b-4 the braid i.e. some mono

Braid alone cannot grip the spool. Put on some mono backing first or put some tape on the spool, as the braid can grip the tape ok.

how much mono would you put on first. also what kind of knot from mono to braid

Enough mono to cover the spool. i use uni to uni knot. Ive had fish take me all the way down to the mono on the spool:eek: and that knot held like a champ:thumbsup:

You don't need a lot. Use a uni to uni knot (a PERFECT knot), and put on enough backing so that the amount of braid you "want" to put on fills the spool correctly.

I cannot stress enough that you need to make your knot perfect. It does not matter how many times you need to retie it.

I fill with mono, tie a uni to uni and then top off with 150 yards of Braid. Was into the backing several times in the spring.:D

I have been fishing with braid since it first came out. At least 10 years now. It is on all of my reels. Freshwater, saltwater, inshore, offshore, and surf. All you need is a 3 inch piece of scotch tape. If a fish runs you down to the tape ,(oh well)
