All I can say is it sucked. Went north up to the rocks. Big mistake. There were no fish, no birds and very little readings. By 11am the south wind has over 20 knots. Trolling south, the boat hardly moved, which caused me to loose 2 shad rigs on the rocks. The 17 mile ride south to get home was very wet and bumpy. The Inlet was no picnic either. We had wind and sea versus strong tide. I picked my spot and gunned it in. The regulator ate it up. that was the only highlight of the day. The rest of it was miserable.

Pulled the boat today...I'm actually glad it's over! Never said that before...just a really windy fall season and not a lot of bigger fish.

Mike,
You just finalized my decision, i was debating about doing one more short trip for bass, but i think i'll just call it a season on that note. I agree, it was a very bad fall season for me, only a couple decent fish very early in the fall, otherwise not good, i can't believe how windy this fall was, seemed like every day was 15-20. Well, have a good winter everyone, hopefully the spring run is like it was this year. Happy holidays.

Mike - That's it for 2008 - my lay up period on my insurance kicks in today. The boat is at Comstock's for the washdown and winterize. On Friday the water was so low in the GG that i didn't need the bridge opened to get over to the ramp.
This fall was tough - two straight weeks of small craft in early - mid November. I caught more fish on the beach I think. Let me know if you are going again before you pull her. I will be hitting the beach a couple more times before the long cold winter.
I pulled the boat yesterday so I'm done. Were there many people out yesterday? Based on the number of reports either everyone did poorly or most are out of the water at this point. There were still quite a few people fishing when I was out of BI last weekend.

There were not many boats out and most were blackfishing. hardly anyone was striper fishing.

Went blackfishing instead of bassing Mike. We had about the same luck as you. Wind 180 degrees of the current. It made staying in one spot hard even with two anchors. On the way in I throttle up and my port trim tab is down. All the way down. It would not come up. I made it in at 8 knots. The inlet was nasty. I think I am going to pull the boat so I can make the repairs before it gets brutal cold out.
All in all it was a good season. Nice bass in the spring, Some of the best mudhole tuna in a long time, Good sharking, and at least we had the numbers of bass in the fall. I had one banner day this fall with all the fish over 20 lbs and not another boat in site. See you next year and have a good off season. Keep in touch

The spring started out with a bang and kind of fizzled out through out the season for us (fishing & the weather). Hey....sounds like you love the Reg over the Top. Catch ya in the spring.

All in all it wasn't a bad year. The inshore BFT was the best in awhile.
i am pulling the boat tomorrow(Thurs). If the weahter is noce, I may fish first in the am.
Stay in touch, see you in 2009.
JAT. Yes, i do love the reg. It was my first season, and being a diesel guy for many years i was alittle nervous about making the switch. Looking back, i am glad i did.
