I thought we would be in good shape with the weather when I stopped in Sea Isle to grab a few things off the Mako before heading to Cape May and noticed there was not a breath of wind :D. Then the further I made it down the Parkway the further the flags were getting from the flag poles until I pulled into the marina and they were straight out .
We all agreed to run to where the fish were last weekend and upon arrival there were no birds, no marks, and not a sign of any life what-so-ever. Water temp held steady at about 48 degrees. We put in a few hours of trolling and with nothing to show for decided to run into the Wildwood Lump and try there. The water was colder at the lump at about 45-46 degrees but we marked bait and the occasional fish which was a lot more than we seen at the first spot, but still no bites. We worked the lump itself, the offshore side, the inshore side, up and down and everwhere inbetween and nothing. Worked up to Herefords where we had a few fish this year and found the mother load of marks right near the inlet bouy. We dragged shad and sand eel dredges and stretch lures right through them and finally hooked up a fish that just missed the mark. He went back to swim and by this time it was 3:00 and time to wrap it up. The water was chocolate milk outside of Herefords where found the good marks and my thoughts are the fish probably couldn't see the baits in this crappy water. Or maybe the moon, aggressive tides and howling winds had something to do with it . Everyone on the radio was reporting more of the same with a few lucky guys grabbing a fish here and a fish there but that was it.
Well it's not over yet! The boat is being moved into another marina today and we should be fishing all the way through January. We would like to thank Drew on the Fight Club for hooking us up with plenty of green crabs to go beat up on some tog with! Thanks dude and just let me know if you want to fish anytime soon!!
