My buddy was out on some SJ rocks last night and only had a single schoolie to show for it. I have been into a solid bite in the backwaters, so I would look around out there. I have been finding fish up to 30" on small bait, stay mobile and you will find them. It is December, there are a TON of hungry fish back there but don't spend too much time in one spot if there is no evidence of fish. If it is one of your solid spots, check out some other locations and swing back another hour into the tide. Small plastics.

Like I said in my previous post, at this point of the season I like to stay mobile. Easily accessible sod banks, bridges, lights and what not are all easy to hit by foot. You will eventually find the fish, and when you do there will be no doubt that they are there.

I haven't been striper fishing this season. I have been busy or the weather wasn't good for me. I plan on going down at least one night before the season is over. I usually fish the bridge near my house. It is an ok spot. I have never fished the surf. According to the regs there is no closed season for stripers in the ocean from 0-3 miles right? Does that mean there is no closed season for surf fishing? What about a jetty? If I fish the 8th st jetty is that legal? If not legal, can I catch and release?

Yes you can fish from the surf year round. The demarcation line at TI is the Ocean Drive bridge, so anything east of the bridge is fair game year round. The demarcation line of most inlets is a straight line from furthest point of land to furthest point of land on each side.

It is illegal to even target striped bass inside of the demarcation lines from midnight December 31st to midnight February 29th.

Hey there Apollo,
What was the bait you guys were running? Did you get them on metal or what?
