Fished Boca Grande mon 12/15. Rented a 17 ft center console. First stop, an old railroad bridge with live shrimp, caught about 40 mangrove snapper and some small grouper. Second spot, ran into the back country deep into the mangroves and fished with a small fish jig, snook after snook ranging from 1 to 5lbs, lost one that was about 10 pounds at the boat:( also caught jacks, and some trout. After a few hours of catch and release snookin, decide to try to catch somethin big. Broke out a bag of chum and used fresh lady fish. 15 mins in my shark rod starts singin, couldnt stop the beast, it ate a whole ladyfish and i had the fish hooked on a 8/0 circle with a steel leader. Fought it for 20 mins before we pulled the hook ... Reset the baits for another half hour and caught some nice size cats than called it a day....Weather was 80 degrees with little wind, came home yesterday to snow, ice, and wind.... Next time im buying a one way ticket and im not returning until striper season in the spring....:D

Boca Grande is an awesome place.
I fish there in the Winter, normally but have been there for Tarpon in June and it was quite an experience. We fish out of Gasparilla Marina.
