thinking about trailering my boat down to cherrystone and get a cabin late next month. i can launch from there and it's a quick trip to the bridge. i don't know what you guys use, stretches...shad umbrellas...big bucks with twisters..what? i heard some big fish winter down there and want to give it a shot.

In the bay and around the bridge most guys are eeling or jigging with light tackle.
Trollers on the ocean side like mojo's, heavyweight bucktail rigs, and some Stretches.

The bay season will be closed then . Unless you want to catch and release , you'll have to fish the ocean side . Look for big flocks of diving gannets and use medium-heavy spinning or casting tackle and throw 6" BKD's , Bass Assassins , Storms and sometimes topwater plugs . For trolling use a mix of tandem parachute/shad combos , umbrella rigs , Tomics and Stretches .

You would be better off launching out of Kipptopeke if they are open. It would be a much better ride to the ocean side from there. The water can come up pretty good with wind against tide between the bridge and Cherrystone. Also check out the transient slip rates at Bay Creek. That is a beautiful marina and the last time I docked there the rates were very reasonable. I used to dock at the marina before it became the Bay Creek Marina, and it was a wreck of a place but ol' Otis was a real good guy. :)

and stay clear of the large flocks of cedar ducks that are out there or you could get shot LOL!

JK good luck but watch the duck hunters...
