I would like give give you guys another point of view before you go signing to rid the bay of reduction boats.

I fully understand what a few are trying to do . Is it right or wrong who knows , Not me thats for sure .

What I do know is this if or when this happens those Reduction boats will be heading this way with a real attitude . working 24/7 . I'm tellin you this cause it's the way that I see it .

They will set up shop on the three mile line and work on the huge schools . Thats where the biggest schools are off of our coast . Trust me I catch these fish for a living . We don't want these guys up here . I know I personally don't want them .

Thats just something to ponder over the way I see it your damm if ya do damm if ya don't . Let Va fight there own battles.

Striped Bass/Menhaden

MENHADEN PANEL CONSIDERS FOOD WEB CONCERNS, POSTPONES DECISION UNTIL MAY

On March 11th, the Menhaden Management Board of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission met for 3 hours in Alexandria, Virginia to consider concerns about possible depletion of Atlantic menhaden in Chesapeake Bay and the amount of forage available to predators, such as striped bass.

The Board reviewed a report by its Technical Committee (TC), which met in February tasked with examining the impact of concentrated removals of menhaden from the Bay, its impact on predators, and the ability of the current management program to address these issues. The TC acknowledged that the issues brought forth by the NCMC and others ?are important to menhaden and the ecosystems in which they reside? and ?need to be addressed.? The TC ?recognized that local depletion is an important issue for any species, particularly for forage species such as menhaden.? But, because the current menhaden stock assessment is for a single species on a coastwide basis, it cannot address

The TC recommended a number of areas for further study, including an abundance estimate for Chesapeake Bay and a measure of Bay-specific consumption by predators. In addition to this and other information, the scientists said the Management Board needed to refine its goals with respect to protecting the ecological role of menhaden so they could develop ecologically-relevant reference points, i.e., what is a safe level of menhaden extraction and what is an adequate supply of forage.

The NCMC testified before the Board, asking them to develop new management objectives as part of an amendment to the Interstate Menhaden Plan. We suggested adding goals of maximizing protection for that portion of the population that is prime forage for striped bass and other predators, and minimizing the risk of local depletion. We recommended consideration of a suite of options for achieving this goals.

With an addendum now being prepared to make some technical changes in the FMP, a motion was offered by a commissioner from Maryland to include in the addendum a suite of options to address or prevent local depletion of menhaden in Chesapeake Bay. After much discussion, raising many unanswered questions, the motion was tabled for reconsideration at the ASMFC?s next meeting the last week of May.

Between now and that meeting, NCMC will be working with its allies in the conservation and fishing communities to persuade the ASMFC to take the necessary steps to improve our understanding of the forage role of menhaden, make changes to the FMP?s objectives with respect to protecting and maintaining that role, and enact interim management measures to reduce the risk of ?ecosystem overfishing.?

Believe me I tried to warn ya ! keep the signatures coming . Your bringing these guys right to your backyard and ya don't realize it . Once they're outside three miles all the tea in China won't be able to stop them . Then you will all see what a killin spree is all about .

Before ya sign ya better stop and look at the big picture . :(
