Hello everyone, new guy here, heard about the site and found you guys have a great source for sharing info. Forums like these are dependent on the users and I've found some great info. thanks.
I fish fresh water, mainly at the Manasquan Res, I've hit the Sedge Islands Barnegate Bay a few times, but with minimal luck. What should I have in my tackle box? Right now I've got an old Bomber and a top water I salvaged from a sedge island, help me support the lure industry.

Not too familiar with exactly where sedge island is but...a few things that work for me.
I personally like throwing plastics. For me if I could only use one lure for the rest of my life it would be 1/2 oz. Kalin jighead with pink fin s. I'm also a big fan of the big 7" fin s. You can catch any of the main NJ back bay fish (bluefish, stripers, fluke, and weakfish) with this rig.
Hope this helps.

I agree, but the THRILL for me is a top water plug fished in skinny water on the bay, nothing compares to the sound of the still peaceful early low light morning water being disturbed by the gulp and Tail slap of a Bass running away and that plug dissapearing from the surface.

Definitely have some topwater, a few bucktails, bombers and other such cranks, and Gulp. I think that in the back, 95% of my fluke and weakies from '08 were on Gulp. I normally fish the gulp on a jighead just heavy enough to get down, so normally nothing greater than 3/4, but 1/2 is a good all around weight. I like the 3" and 4" shrimp in natural colors and the 4" swimming mullet in chartruse and pink.

I figure out what my outing is going to be then load a flat Plano tray with all the gear I'll need for the outing. Most of my trips will be either fishing late afternoon into the night, or start in the middle of the night and continue into the morning.
In my box I'll have 1/2 oz jigheads with some bags of Gulp for drifting during the light hours. For dusk or dawn, I'll have a few topwaters to throw. For the night time, I'll stick with the 1/2 oz jighead and put on a white 6" curly tail to throw at the bridges. I use just a few different lures to get me around the clock.
For stripers I would use some silver bunker spoons with red and white feathers around the eye of the hook. They can have either a single or treble hook. Also "secret spoons" are heard to work pretty well in 8 or 9 inches. Green and white is supposed to be the best color. "9ers" umbrella rigs hooked with tiger colored shad (green with black dots) between 7 and 9 inches will produce a lot of stripers. Bluefish will go for most of these lures as well. For fluke i'd use smaller bucktail jigs and a variety of gulp baits such as 4" swiming mullet, 3" shrimp, bloodworms, and clam. For weakfish I encourage you to use a floating jighead rig which suspends your bait off of the bottom 3 or 4 feet. Also a fishfinder rig will work well. You should bucktail jigs, sandworms, and Gulp bloodworms.
