I'm going to be off from work the first week of April and I'm taking my son winter flounder fishing. I was thinking about the Shark river? or someplace close to that. I have a 17' aluminum boat that I'll be trailering.
I'm looking for advice from fellow Barners on the following
Boat launch-
Tackle shop- I need to get a couple of chum holders, chum, some blood worms, and winter flounder rigs. I did alot of reading from back issues of "The Fisherman" and have a basic idea of what to expect as far as anchoring and chum, rod size ect...
I'm not really fixed on the Shark river, I'll listen to any advice. Thanks in advance smile.gif

We had good luck with them using mussels for chum, and bloodworms(small pieces) on the hook.
I would anchor from both the bow and stern, and using a plunger on a long pole, hit the bottom stirring up the mud,now and then.
A light rod,say about the size of a freshwater bass rod will do.
Also jig your bait once in a while, this stirs up the bottom also.
Good luck

I took the Norma K flounder fishing last year and we did well in the Manasquan River. We were anchored right by the old hospital. There's a bait shop right down the street from where the party boats launch. This is Point Pleasant area.
i will second the tech and the pp hospital i will be searching it this weekend if the weather holds

There is a decent ramp for the Shark River at the Belmar Marine Basin. There is also a bait shop here (I think it's the Fisherman's Den). They sell tokens for the gates on the ramp and all of the other fishing supplies you might need.

Go to 12th ave in Seaside Park...free ramp until memorial day. stop at the 1st bait shop you see on the left hand side of the street , don't want to mention the name because he is not an advertiser on the Barn. drop your boat in and head west across the bay. then go south about a mile. Anchor up as Joeturse stated and go get'em.
bloods and chum are the ticket...
