Trying to get things rolling down here. Lot's of folks seem to be using penn 330 with a 6' standup. Seems heavy unless you are pulling a big troll in.

Scott STS 9 weight, Orvis Vortex reel with a 350 grain depth charge. Chatreues and white deceiver. Opps, wrong guys. :D

sounds about right to me, you might want an extra spool with an intermediate on it:thumbsup:

Tough to pick one, are you fishing the upper, middle or lower bay.
I'm not a big trolling type of guy but tend to fish the lower bay so you could be fishing for croakers one minute and then going after Cobia the next huge difference in gear.

If your just nuts-in around then a 7' MH spinning rod with a Penn 5600L, or a Penn 975 LD on a MH rod 7' long.

Thanks for the replies. Upper Bay to the Bay Bridge. Not planning to troll at this point.

For LTJ in the Bay:

St. Croix Premier 6'6" Medium Power Fast Action with Shimano Stradic 2500 or 3000. 10 lb Power Pro or Fireline.

If you want to step it up a notch. Go to a St. Croix Avid and a SHimano Sustain, same specs.

Someone suggested St. Croix rods to me last year so I bought a few. I am VERY happy with that purchase. I have 2 casting w/ Penn 975ld's and 2 spinning w/ penn slammer 460's. all of them are 6'6" Med/Fast.

I like these options, St Croix makes a nice rod but I like a 7' rod myself/

Upper bay light tackle, I use a 7' med action graphite rod (spinning or baitcasting, whichever you prefer) spooled with 20-30# power pro. Will handle anything that swims up there.

With what line? Did I hear somewhere that you can't use braid with roller guides.
