I think I'd like to start tagging bass this Spring.

I only keep an eater every so often so tagging would give me yet another thing to horse around with on my boat while fishing...which would also delay my return to port...hence delaying my return home to do chores.

Anyhow... Who knows where you can purchase tags for striped bass? I'm pretty sure I've read that you have to purchase tags becuase the DNR/ game officials don't provide them free of charge.

Please advise.

PS_ Good luck with your chores if you don't tag your rockfish

American Littoral Society out of Sandy Hook, NJ.

check their website, pay to be a member and pay for tags. its easy and simple. the money goes for paying tags etc....

Here is the website:

http://www.littoralsociety.org/tagging_what_is_it.aspx

I have been tagging for 2 years now. The fees for membership and tags are tax deductible if you itemize. It is really cool when you get a returned fish and find out how far it traveled. I have tagged like 50+ fish but I only have like 5 returns.

Take a moment and think about this....

You catch a fish... tag it... and let it go....

The fish is caught again at a later date.... and you are notified....

They inform you where the fish was caught and
how much it grew since the last time it was held by you.

Pretty Cool!

...I am going to do the same and start tagging(and stop procastinating like in years past) - I think this will be great if everyone jumps on the bandwagon...also I had no idea this would go towards a tax incentive...My accountant should have relayed me the news(haha) as he knows I am an avid fisherman, and furthermore knows I would never keep all these damn Striper I catch.

LET THE TAGGING BEGIN!!!:fighting:

I've been tagging for 15 years. I have only about 3,000 or so out. I have about 30 returns. The best was my first tagged striper that I got a return on in 5 years caught on same day same place 5 yrs. later by me. How much better than that? It is worth the time and minimal money invested.

No way dude! That is a big goal of mine. To catch and tag a fish and then re-catch it. Congrats!

Also the last time I checked, if you tag fish up river that is considered fresh water and you need a special permit for that.

that is correct rocky to tag in the del river you need a special permit the guy at the littoral society can help you with that but you still cannot tag on the pennsy side only on the river or from the jersey bank.

I think that would be really cool seeing how the striper you caught has grown over the period of time it was released
