alligator gars

Did anyone see the show on VS where they are fishing in Texas for alligator gars. That is one nasty prehistoric fish.:eek:

I used to see them all of the time when I lived in Lutz Fla. They are nasty looking things. Actually, they had one in the tank at the Harrisburg BPS this weekend when I took my son there

Go to google videos and type in alligator gar. Look for Texas big fish with Mark Malfa. Bow fishing for Gar video that rocks!:thumbsup:--- 175-200 lb monsters!:please:---Watch when they pull them in the boat.......:nuts:---it's nutz!!!

Added this fish to my list of species caught two years ago down in FL. Was fishing a lake and saw one swim out of the pads into an open pocket...pitched my spinnerbait in and wham...he nailed it. After a little fight I dragged him in the boat. Only about 36" but a decent fight and worth adding it to the list. :thumbsup:

Most of the ones in Florida are spotted gar and Florida gar, which are a much smaller species of gar. Alligator Gars are sick though.

They were crazy looking...i have never heard of that until i saw the show on tv....i think they said they can stay out of water for like 2 hours too which i guess is good if u forgot your hook remover and have to go get one
