Started thinking about a kayak fishing trip to the keys for next fall thru the spring. Anyone have any thoughts about what time of the year the flats fishing would be the best. And don't tell me the summer cause I ain't going to Florida in the summertime. Also is flats fishing doable without learning how to flyfish. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Best time is now through june for Permit, Bones and Tarpon. You can throw a shrimp tipped jig on the flats but the bigger tarpon will be caught around the bridges on live bait. You best bet would be get a guide for the day and learn the tricks. Watch out for those big bull sharks!!
