Everything I've seen posted on this board lately as well as some first hand information I've obtained, seems to indicate that all the current striper activity is on surf clams as it ususally is in the spring. However, on my way up north today for Easter dinner, I noticed many of the bait shops along Route 47 were displaying signs indicating "Fresh Bunker" in addition to clams.

Since I hope to splash the boat tomorrow mornning and make my first trip of the season, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Has the bay bite changed to bunker?

I should add bunker will be good when the water gets a bit warmer.and they show up on the ocean side.. like High 40s...low 50s....I don't think stripers can metabolize big baits yet in this cold water, Thats what makes clams, and sea worms, so appealing to them. its like the difference between an Ensure and a steak...the bass gets more return on energy it puts out to digest the softer baits.
