What is your favorite way to catch striped bass? Best bait, favorite rig, most fun, current, time, etc.

In November, anchored in Little Egg inlet, 4 rod spread with fresh clam and spot, alternating between big blues and big stripers.

Early in the spring, I (as well as stripers), like surf clam. Thread it on a 8/0 to 10/0 hook. Then, I take a piece of elastic thread, about 12 inches or so, and wrap it around the clam tightly, so it squeezes the clam to the hook. I also use a "fish finder" rig on my line and a "bait runner" (dual drag) reel. When a striper grabs it, let 'em run until the spool is spinning fast, then set the hook. Later in the spring or in the fall, I use bunker. From an average to large bunker, you can get four baits, cut cross ways. You can also filet the bunker and cut the filet long ways and get four baits. From smaller bunker, you can get three or even two baits. It's a judgement call.;)

1. On a popping fly in 2-3 feet of H20.
2. On a stillwater popper in 2-3 feet of H20.
These are my favorite ways, not the easiest.

Although I fish for them in many ways, like trolling bunker spoons, clamming, bunker chunking, live lining, drifting sand worms or eels, all by boat of course my all time favorite years ago was live linning herring off the jetties at night in the fall. But any way is the best way at the time I am doing it if I am catching.

1....Topwater, Needles at night Poppers during the day.
2.... Snagging Bunker in the pocket of a Jetty when the bass 7 blues have them trapped or in bunker pods from the boat With no other boats around though to disturb the pod and send them sounding.
Least Favorite.
1.... Trolling

gotta be top water...watching the explosion when they hit even if they miss still gets me...even after more yearsthan I like to admit....second has to be swimming a livie...watching the line going back forth as the bait realizes its being stalked....:D
