Left Barnegat Inlet sometime around noon and headed up to the North. Found some good bird action about 4 miles north of the inlet in about 50 -55 feet of water. We marked some fish, put it on the drift and worked some jigs(Krocs, crippled herring). It wasn't long before the screen lit up and we had a double on. Broke one off on lighter line and the crippled herring. Put one on the deck on a kroc that was about 25 lbs. We managed a few more bites and a couple of more fish. The largest for the day was 32lbs. All but the one lost were caught on Krocs. No sign of bluefish in with the Bass.

Nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

That sounds great. I'm late getting my boat in this year, but will have it in this week. Fishing really picked for the people in my marina this week, I heard some good reports from several people there.

Quatro, same thing for me, that's the second trip with the same results { last wed} water temp was 50-52 which I think is just a little to cold for the bass

just a fluke sr

Don't get discouraged. Water temps need to rise. Once that happens it will break wide open.:fighting:

Hey guys, I'm new to Barnegat, just got my boat in the water and was looking for alittle advice. I went out last Friday, but ended up staying off the channel by the Inlet because it was really rough. Tried to get out of the inlet, but was just slammed by breakers, so we turned around. Didn't get any bass in the 20ft drop off I anchored over, but we boated a couple of 20+ inch fluke and a small blue and had a bite off by a huge blue with bunker chunks.

With regard to once I get into the ocean, what do you suggest? I've been looking at maps and was thinking about drifting/anchoring along the drop offs that run down the coast line out in front of IBSP, fishing with bunker chunks, some chum, and maybe some clam and jigs. What do you guys think? Also, I'm not much into or know much about trolling. Any suggestions with that?

Thanks!

i was out on tuesday and got the skunk as well, i was surprised at all the bait i saw on the fish finder that i didnt even get a touch, a week earlier i cought a 25lb bass. no rhym or reason really, the temp was 52 the water was murky but ive had them before with the same conditions, i think the bulk of the fish just arent here yet, the water is definatly warming slower than it has in the last two years.

yea, i'm very aware of that actually. plus my father knows the area well. but i have a good chartplotter that shows the depths and everything, so i'm very careful about it... thanks.

I'm not trying to start fire, just a heads up...isn't bass fishing limted to within 3 miles of shore. I'm not positive that 100% correct this year. Again just some info not a confrontation I know ppl like to get all fired up these days. Nice job findin em especially since its still spotty.

King Size you are correct, about 4 miles north. I was about 1.5 off the beach. I also marked bait all the way up the beach until I saw the bird play. I did not see any striper(or bluefish for that matter) readings on any of the bait I read until I found the birds.

The bait is here, the bass will not be far behind. A couple degrees in the water temps and things should look real good out there.
