What do you mean by "nothing"... would it turn over and not catch, or not even turn over. The more info you give be better results you will have :)

If it ran some times and truly did nothing other times, I would check all of your battery connections as well as the connections to the starter and solenoid.

ThanxWith the information you have provided.Sounds like a battery connection problem,I would first check the cables at the battery.Make sure that the terminals are clean and free of corrosion. When you say "other times and nothing" I'm assuming you mean the engine will not crank over.Hence the above. If the engine starts and wont stay running,or wont take throttle you might want to look into the fuel system. And on that note have you done anything to deal with the problems inherent with the Ethanol Fuel? Such as replacing the fuel lines, installing a 10 micron in line fuel filter, removing all fuel and filtering it to be use again, not to mention removing the fuel tank and having it cleaned out.Hope this helps you out.Was that you on channel 68 broke down near the Maul?

Wiggle the shifter to make sure you are in neutral.

If you turn the key and nothing happens, look at your gauges. If they are on, then chances are the problem is the control box neutral switch, solenoid, or starter. If the gauges are not on, then there is a problem in the battery, cables, wire harnesses, connections, fuse, or keyswitch.

The gauages could come on with corroded battery cables. The amount of energy required is very minimal - less than 1/2 a amp. I always take the cables off the battery, and use a file to clean them. Wire brushes don't have the ass needed. All connections should be bright and shiny like a new penny.

There just simply isn't enough info for anyone to make a good assesment. It's like taking your car to the mechanic saying "It dosen't work".. and after a few thousand dollars doing a complete engine over haul, the customer points out that the blinker is still blown.

I had a similar problem in the spring of '08 with my Yamaha 150. A Yamaha Mechanic checked it out and found the cable going from the battery switch to the starter was corroded. He replaced it and shazam, its been starting quickly ever since.

My experiences :

1 - the nuetral switch in the shifters was corroded and some times it made contact to start the engine, sometimes it did not (replaced the shifters)
2 - the EMM was going bad and needed to be replaced. Ran a whole season before replacing them because the service rep said they will always start, it just took time to get it to kick over and they always did start
3 - lose kill switch that needed the laynard tightened
4 - battery not holding a charge
5 - cold weather

Hope this helps
