My buddy had his family up for the week vacationing in Cape Cod.

He called me to come up for a day or two to fish.

Said they were catching bluefin tuna a mile or two off the beach, sometimes
on top water plugs.

I saw some youtube videos on tuna on the surface and being
caught on surface plugs which got my blood going.

Left my house Friday at 12 AM, was there by 7. We got
right on the water, rough out front, so we decided to shoot for bass
back in the bay. Found fish almost immediately on the surface.
We used plugs and for about 3 hours had bass up to 20 pounds on
almost every cast. Bass were exploding out of the water, kind of like
tarpon. When you were pulling in one, others were following.
Experimented with different plugs, you could have through an old
smelly shoe and they would have smashed it.

We came in, ate lunch and went back out, wind kicked up,
found them behind Provincetown, again almost every cast the
bass would explode on the plug, not stop action.

We stopped around 3, I decided to continue my road trip and
also make it an exploritory trip. Went along the tip, stopping at
different beaches, looking for structure, stopping at the B&Ts
talking, seeking info on good locations, baits, fall fishing.
Stopped at the Cape Cod Canal, found a cool bunch of locals and
chatted fishing for a while as we watched a lighting storm pass by.
They told me starting on Memorial Day weekend, they had big fish
to 55 lbs in the Canal, last week they had a real good few days.
Figured it must have been the Hudson fish.

Road down Rt 6 along Rhode Island, checking out some of the jetties
and points I had read about in different books. Looking for potential
hot spots for fall fishing or to launch a kayal.

When I got tired, pulled over and threw a sleeping bag over myself to get
a few hours of shut eye.

Was able to see sunrise and sunsets over the ocean which are
a inner peaceful sight.

Nothing like a little road trip.

i miss the canal already. nowhere else in the world can you consitently pull out slobs with such ease (assuming you know how to fish it :) )

it's at the state pier right on campus. 30' of bass infested water right at my feet.
