After taking it on the chin Sunday, with stiff South winds, Pop Pop and I redeemed ourselves yesterday with 11 bass to 40#'s :) The following fishing report is from Monmouth county waters.

Pop Pop's 36lb Bass Caught On A Big Don Pencil
We did the afternoon/night shift from 3p.m to 9:30p.m. We had what we thought would be the perfect forecast to launch Pop Pop's 17 Carolina Skiff; Light west winds, with no chance of storms, etc.
When we arrived conditions were perfect! Light west winds, with calm seas...just as predicted. Conditions couldn't be better for spotting bait & feeding bass. Water temps were 68 degrees.

The Fish Gods Blessed Me With My Second 40# Bass This Spring On A Fixter Pencil
We did a lot of searching at first, until finally around 7pm the fish began to go on the feed. We did the Run & Gun thing, landing 11 bass between 7p.m & 9:15p.m.
We weren't fishing the pods so much. The fish would blow up out of nowhere, then sound. We used our chartplotter to stay in the area were we found feeding fish. When we didn't see them on the surface, we used our sounder to find them mid-depth. From there we called them up with pencils. We caught the majority of our fish in 50' of water. Pop Pop did a great job of putting us on the fish & keeping us on them (nice job Pop Pop).
The really nice part about this trip, besides having perfect conditions, was that we caught these fish all by ourselves. Not another boat it the mix...just two nitwits floating around the ocean in a 17' skiff, throwing pencil poppers ;)
All 11 of our Bass were released in an effort to continue to enjoy nights like last night for many years to come :)
