View Full Version : A rumor I heard today...bad news for the D.Bay

I HEARD from a good source that the D.Bay WILL have a CLOSED SEASON in Spring(possibly 2005) and that the Delware River below Salem will also be closed as is the river above Salem. He also said the EEZ will be open but the season will be limited as it is in many southern states for ocean fishing??? This person also said that POSSIBLY people fishing in the river for stripers WOULD be discouraged(whatever the heck that means) from doing so. He mentioned DOD may see some ACTION(whatever that means) THIS spring. This is from someone high up in Fish and Game. I dont know if he is hearing rumors and blowing it out of proportion or if he was blowing smoke up my butt. Anybody know anything??? Dont shoot the messinger

I THINK IT IS A GREAT IDEA SINCE THAT SOME INDIVUALS DONT KNOW HOW TO RELEASE. AND OTHERS JUST BREAK THE RULES AND KEEP EVERYTHING OVER THE LIMIT.

Posted a while back on a similiar thread. I would like 2 fish up to 33-36in. Keep the slot or not. Doesn't matter to me. You get ONE trophy tag per YEAR. To be used on any fish. Will make you think about using it on a 40in fish. May end the year with your tag. If you catch a monster then you use it. Just a thought.

MistyLady, Maybe thats why he was talking about enforcing the river fishing. Seems like there is stuff goin on behind the scenes that many dont know about.

Maybe 2 Trophy tags. I think the slot may have been important as far as forage and space goes but thats just a hunch. It will never happen. NJ is too caught up in the BS to do what is good for the fish.

Just like the thread about the bombing island in Peurto Rico, b!tch about not opening one area may cause the other side to get another area closed. No compromise with the striper worshipers, its all or nothing for them and it is closer to them getting nothing than it is for all they want.
Complain about some not releasing is lame because if it is legal we can keep it, they don't die if they aren't hooked so us guys that don't release only kill our limit no residual deaths. ;)

Hip,the U.M.D.B. will not let them take away the striper in the spring!!! I beieve whoever told you that they will close the bay for the spring run is blowing smoke out of thier *ss. Do you think the marinas aren't going to fight this, its extra money for them, plus the weakfish sucked last year. Plus not count all the rec out there fishing also,we need to have our bay fishing fix. smile.gif How are they going to enforce this, believe it or not, there are other fish in the bay other than striper in the spring!!! It will not really mattter to me,the crew of the Slammer 3 will be bluefishing during the springtime if this ever happens. I can't help it if the bass bite the hook while fishing with bunker for those tasty bluefish :D

They closed the river...why not the Bay? You may catch them but what about keeping them? I am just passing along what I heard ;)

If they screw around the big pond with the stripers, there will be more than a few charter boats going out of business! The Fort made it with the so so flounder fishing. If anyone smart enough that stayed open into striper fishing, they made money! Unless they closed early as usual? There's a few Captains at the Fort which you guys will notice gone this coming season. Figures, after we get the creek dredged the correct way for the second time? Like the Doctor said... Your not gonna die from a heart attack...your fine... but you do have aids!!.....

First of all there is no evidance or science to support closeing the DB, Who ever told you this is screwing with your head and most likely watching this thread drinking cheap beer and ROFLHAO.
I picked up my net lic at Nacote cr last week and inquired about the loss of the slot? Was advised that NJ is going ahead with the same program as 03 and if pushed by ASMF to give up the slot then the Gov has stated the state will go to court.
Conservation ofcr's are like any cop ask 3 different ones the same question and you will get at least two differant answers. Just like here on the BB someone will ask a Q and another will answer a third will ask again without reading the thread.ie the herring issue!
The bay is full of fish from trenton falls to the rips year round in the spring there are so many slot and smaller fish it's almost impossable to net shad, the state knows this and thats why there are fighting the producer status.
And finally this Gov is so down in popularity that there is no way he wants to piss off a large number of fisherman during an election year!
One thing being considered is closeing a much grater area of bay front during the spring migration of the little birds(Sand Piper) that caused the Crab issue, this will no doubt hurt those without boats.

MISTYLADY </font>[/QUOTE]all you have to do is look at some of the pictures of the big breeders that appear on the barn they should all be thrown bck those big fish dont cook up very whell taste just like big blues, we should be able to keep the smaller ones they have a better taste and this way the breeders can do there thing and assure us of continued good stripper fishing.

As far as a stamp goes this is nothing but a step towards salt water fishing license. The money will all go to yhe bureacrats. They did the same things with freswater fishing. Buy a license and you still have to buy a Trout Stamp. What more do they do for freshwater fishing than a few Trout stockings. I hunt with a shotgun, bow and muzzleloader and need to buy a license and permit for each one. And when the state can't manage the herd they make another season and charge for a permit. The $40.00 quail & pheasant stamp is another joke. Don't get me started!!!!!

I read an article a while back stating that having a minimum size requirement can actually harm a fishery. By removing only the stripers greater than 28 inches and throwing back all the stripers less than 28 inches, we can actually harm the gene pool. In effect we are keeping fish with the genes to grow larger and reach the minimum length in a shorter amount of time, and throwing back a fish with inferior genes that grow at slower rate. The fishery will (over years) contain a higher number of fish containing genes which promote a slower/smaller growth rate.
I would like to see a program similar to the Redfish program in Florida. Fish OVER a specified length would be thrown back, and if you choose you are able to keep smaller fish for the table. In addition each angler would be allowed one trophy tag per year. They also have a similar program for Halibut were the large breeding fish are releases.
