What variety of sinkers and weight range do you carry and use the most?

I carry mostly bank sinkers from 1-6oz,,,

1oz-2oz I use on calm days drifting for flounder, or on the hook for weaks ..(some days can use up to 4 oz )

3-5oz is my chunking weight

its all according to the sea conditions, wind speed how fast you are drifting ,and tide current ... they all play their parts.

basically put its trial and error see what works for you .. For the del Bay I'd say primaerily a 3 oz is the most common on the end of my line

When we fish the big pond, At slack tide 2 oz, when the tide runs 3 oz., 3 being the most used. There has been a few times when the tide was running hard and we had to up it to 6 oz. I keep my sinkers in a gateraid powder mix plastic container. I have these in assorted size weights. Never know when the blues start ripping riggs away!

EddieB ... I probably carry a wider variety of sinkers than most. I carry sinkers from 1/4oz to 8oz on the boat. I do not use bank sinkers at all. I prefer the bass casting sinkers. Many times I will cast off to the side of the boat and work a rolling sinker along the bottom. Depending on the current, it may require very little weight. Once you get behind the boat, the light weight may try to lift off the bottom. That's when need to slowly drop back some line. I have several other techniques I use as well, that require a wide variety of sinkers. I also carry split shot, drop shot and worm sinkers.
Geez, it just dawned on me, with all those weights and all the jigs and lead heads I carry, it's a wonder the boat still floats.

I carry sinkers from 1 to 14 oz.You need the heavy weight when the tide and current are running at the Old Grounds and you are in 90 feet of water fishing for sea bass or flounder.

One thing I have been doing for about 5 years now is color code my sinkers bt spray painting them. I have a chart which tells me what weight is what color. That is sitting in my weight box[big letters] and I have it laminated to keep out the moisture. It is a lot easier than having to put my reading glasses on every time I am reaching for a sinker.

This idea was written up in the October 2003 issue of Sport Fishing magazine. They paid me $75 bucks for it.....Gene

Dr. Kray, I seen your idea in the Sport Fishing Magazine flying home from California..Blow me away to read about a Barner at 35,000 feet. I like your idea about color codeing the different size sinkers. Do you think the colored sinkers under water would take away from the bite? or do you think the Dbay is to merky to make a difference. :D
