Could you have purchased a pair of waders? Were they right on the beach?

Just wanna make sure I got this right. You went all the way to Montauk without doing your homework. everything I've EVER read about going there(BRING-WADERS,KORKERS,BUCKTAILS,PENCILS>>>ect.)
Then, in your infinite knowledge, you bad mouth a local B&T shop.
My expierience was that they are both fine. If I had to deal with people asking me the same questions 100 times a day, I'd say I'd get a bit grumpy now and then.
BTW, compare prices at both shops for the SAME ITEMS, then tell what shop you like better.;)
They blitzed the beach, and you took a skunker?

Not bringing waders to Montauk is akin to not bringing your junk to the world's greatest whore house... Personally, I would have gone in with my boxers if fish were blitzing...

One question, posted by you, before you went all the way up there. Took that miserable drive. "I'm heading to Montauk and I have no idea what to take, what should I bring?"
Honestly, it's almost unbelievable.

well what happened was we were on island beach fishing until dark...just surf fishing...and we were already halfway there...and just said screw it...forgot wallets and credit cards at home...and just left...not really thinking...all we had was an iphone to go on here and look for some info...we knew we were doing the worse...by not being prepared...we just wanted to really check it out...see what it was about and it was great to see...we'll get our bass once there around here...that was just fun...and by the way...johnnys was more expensive then paulies...now we know what we need next time...like i said it was all in fun...

I've shot off half cocked in a few different types of missions in the past myself. Don't worry about what people say. You surely won't make the same mistakes a second time. It's called "learning for yourself". Montauk is a special place and there's Lots of room to fish. You don't have to stand shoulder t0 shoulder with everyone else (unless it;s going OFF!!). It IS a place to keep your head on, though, with slippery rocks, cliffs, and gnarly "locals" from New Jersey:D:D:thumbsup:

Imagine that, a rival business bad mouths his competitor. wrong on prices. 2 oz. bucktails $1 cheaper at johnies.
Also a better selection. Paulies was out of white andrus jetty casters. And they are a must have item.

Good luck next time up

I remember getting invited to go up there around 17yrs ago and didnt know much about it. Brought what i had which wasnt what you really needed but it wouldnt have made a difference as I was younger and didnt have much money then anyhow. Was cold standing in the water in Late october with hip waders but I had a smile on my frozen face as I was bailing fish left and right until i practically had Hypothermia.

remember looking at those funny looking reels everyone had. Ended up being a Vanstaal and now they are the cadillac of Surf fishing reels.

Great Place and if you can it should be an annual trip. If you love to fish its a must see place

:)
