Dirtypenny,
Any chance you might be on the water on Sat or Sun a.m. 10-24/25? My pal and I might take my "new" Jon Boat up for a try at crappies. If you plan on being out we'll watch for you.

Could you tell me if there's deep water near the boat launch, reachable if casting from shore..........Mikey

Good Luck to you guys!! I doubt I'll be out either day, my work schedule right now is kind of messed up..I work 10pm to 6am..and my days off are Tuesday and Wednesday. If I do get out it will probably be in the evening..after 2 or 3pm...but as of late my fishing has been restricted to monday, tuesday and wednesdays between 9am and 1pm. I have to take my kids to school and pick them up. Kind of stinks, but that's what bein a dad is all about

Mikey, the deepest water is up by the dam..near the rocks it's about 12-15' deep and then out further I believe it gets to about 25' deep max. The state ramp (off carmel road) isn't a bad spot to fish for panfish..it just gets a lot of pressure and boat traffic. Casting distance from the dock it gets to about 7 to 8' of water....maybe a little deeper but not much. If I were you, I'd try throwing small spinners (beetle spins, roostertails, stuff like that) or small jigs w/grubs. I usually dont' fish union lake in the dead of summer too often..too many people.

I use a beetle spin with a white or green Panfish assasin in this lake and allways done very well with the yellow/white perch and slab bluegills.Stay near the lillies and its hard to miss um'

Hey bass seeker, should have mentioned that if the winds are blowing more than 15mph..even gusts.. I wouldn't recommend union lake unless you have a working bilge pump. Place can get hairy in a heartbeat..a boat capsized earlier this year during a tournament in foul weather up there...so be careful.

LOL you go there on a blustery enough day, it'll look like the DE bay or somethin'. White caps all over the place!

Thanks, I always respect bodies of water, more so the shallow ones with a long fetch.

Weather permitting we'll hit it that weekend, I'll post a report. Unless the striped ones have arrived in numbers down here.

No the wind and rain kept me home, got lazy and watched college football on Sat. I may run up this coming Sat though it looks like rain again. When are you planning on hitting it?

We may be there Sunday morning though we may hit a local pond so we can catch that game. If you see two big guys in a jon boat not catching anything but seemingly having a good time and laughing anyway, that'll be my pal and me.

If you get out, good luck; if you go to bed instead, have a good sleep :)

Mikey, if you see us at the launch maybe we can squeeze you in.
