When will the boats start catching using clams as bait in the bays behind Ocean City and the area arround it? Water needs to be colder right? Or will it work this week

They will work whenever there are striped bass around. i prefer Bunker in the fall and clams in the spring - but clams will work
Make sure you have fresh surf clams - rancid clams will attract doggies and their buddies

If the clams are fresh, and if there are hungry stipers around, then they will work.

Surf guys use Calms all the time,I like salted from the Surf and sometimes even on board.Don't forget the elastic string to tie them to the hook;)

i go to cvs in the hair band section and pick up the little rubber bands made by scrunci.. they are made in a few colors and can get like 300 for 4 bucks... the dam thing are indistructible and hold a clam on like knowones business....

i think a bass would eat a big fat clam anytime anywhere. particularly productive between storms when there is a lot of broken clams due to the heavy surf busting them up.

I realize that I will catch a lot LESS fish... But, what is the next best thing.... If using say a buck tail.... what can be hung off of it to help.... ?

Ells or any tip of Live bait tend to work better when the water is Murky because it is easier for the bass to find it thru vibrations.
I agree they will eat anything the can find:cool:

Is clamming productive at night while anchored and chumming? I only seem to catch fish clamming during daylight. I was thinking about setting up the first couple hours of dark?

I would try nice long strips of spot, croaker, bluefish, or mackerel. Only hook it through the skin one time, and you might wanna use a stinger hook.
