I work for the forest fire service and can give the following details...its a salt marsh fire in West Tuckerton off of Country Club Blvd expected to build to about 30 acres before burnout. Jim

From my angle I can't even see smoke.

We could see some of it from our deck. At one point the wind either died or shifted and the flames became HUGE. Saw the helicopter circling a little bit later.

Yep. That was the first time we could see a fire from the house, haha. The flames were small in those pictures. At one point they were many times taller, but unfortunately I didn't have the camera out yet.

Looks like it's in the middle of the marsh, not that close to 7BR. Do they know what caused it?

Yeah, I think you are right. I could see fire trucks parked up on the first bridge looking south towards it, but didn't see much going on through the binoculars. I've been looking online but so far can't find any news saying anything other than that there was a fire. Says about 20 acres burned off Country Club Blvd. I'm sure it didn't take much for the fire to spread.

It's proscribed burn season. What you might have seen is the Forest Fire Service setting controlled burns to clear out undergrowth and reduce the fuel load before the forest fire season begins.

Where it was located I'd say it was more likely just a brush fire. It's marsh land, so nothing really to clear out. Also, it would have been a horrible idea to try to do a controlled burn with that kind of wind. Apparently there were something like 10 different wildfires throughout southern NJ.

That fire was started by a downed power line. About 20 acres total burned. It is almost burn season but the FF service would not burn on a day where the wind is blowing like it was.

It's actually amazing how many wild fires that are burning in southern Jersey at any given time. When I am out flying between McGuire and ACY I have seen so many fires over the years. Most seem small from 3,000' but some are pretty big too. They are more visible at night even with all of the smoke. I wasn't flying to see this one because I definitely would have had interest in a fire in Mystic Island!

My buddy flew the KC10 out of McGuire until he had to move West a cpl of years ago. Captain Chad....don't want to post his last name but you may have known him.
