Brigantine Beach update

Just wanted to let you guys know how things are going with the surfers and local government. We all met with the beach comittee and here is what we came up with to put before the town comittee for their approval. The South end Jetty area will remain the same with one exception. From Memorial Day to Labor Day there will be no fishing beyond 50 yds North of the jetty while the life guards are on duty. Also there will be no surfing South of that point and there will be signs stating as such. Also we will be getting a "FISHING ONLY " beach from Brant Road for 5 blocks South. That means that the onkly people allowed in the water are fishermen!!!!!!!!!! They are going to cut a 4wd access for us and we will be able to access this area year round!!!!!! The beach will remain public,as all beaches in NJ are by law but we will rule the water. Just wanted to thank all the Barners for your support and it looks like we won this one. I'll keep you posted as things progress. Phil

This was a solution that was put on the table originally and pushed for by the surfers on the beach comittee.

Evidentally, you either misread the post, or you do not understand it. If you have any questions, why not ask, instead of saying that it is "crazy". Again, The surfers on the comittee presented this option. I don't understand what your problem with it is?

This has been discussed b4 maybe not here but on stripersurf.com i know///But there arent that many places worth surfing in this state, as compared to the endless options set for fishing. Surfers should get priority. IMO. But thats my opinion. I hope surfing wins out in this case. It should work on a numbers factor. If more people are fishing, or if more people are surfing, and im sure you can fit more surfers into a block than surf fishers then, surfing takes priority. I wont be taking your fishing spot when there is quality waves and im free to surf, because surfing will always over-ride fishing.

Why is it when you come up with a solution that addresses everyones needs in a fair way that is agreeable to the fishermen and surfers that use the area there is always someone that doesn't have a clue as to what's going on with an oppinion that is self centered and suited for their needs only. Kid you have no idea how hard these people worked on this solution and how the local surfers and fishermen came together to make ie work. Please do us a favor and keep your fishing on the bridges and your surfing away from Brigantine!! Swapull, as far as the problem in Brigantine is concerned, it was never discusses by the parties concerned on any other website besides The Barn or acfishing. If you can't help with a solution please stay in your own little world. Phil

snapull,What I mean by your own little world is that you fail to see that everybody gains by the solution that the local surfers and fishermen have come up with. The surfers gain because they will have the whole South end to surf as long as they stay away from the jetty (it will save a lot of bumps and lumps due to the ability of most of the surfers I've watched) and the fishermen will be able to fish an area that will not bother the surfers. As for owning the beach, I think it is something that should be enjoyed by everyone and common courtesy should keep everyone happy while they enjoy doing what they love to do. As far as Ghost surf fishing in Sicklerville,He has tried to do just that and found it impossable to do as the Surfers kept sitting in front of him waiting for that perfect wave. Phil

u know what...maybe u should fish brigantine when the fisherman are fishing and the surfers are moving closer to their lines. The surfers move so close that its nearly impossible to fish while not trying to hook the surfers. go somewhere else and surf...besides brigantines 2 foot waves. go to lbi...at least theres a challenge there. :mad:

What you should do is play a fishing game on Play Station (what most of your kids have) while a real fish is broiling in the oven- that way you can really enjoy yourself! I can't believe someone would cast into a group of surfers but I guess it has had to happen after reading some posts. Like you said, it's common sense not to. I'de be ticked to. I'm glad i fish SIC, not too many surfers and the fishermen just drive around, they really don't fish. They watch me. tongue.gif No wonder they don't catch. We have to share, show respect on both sides. My love for the Ocean is just as strong as a surfers. I can stand there for 8 hours straight and love it. Sounds like too much population at one place. If both sides compromise that is a good thing right? And IMO if someone gets up before you and is in a spot then you snooze you loose BUT if someone was courteous and came up and asked if they could surf my spot with some manners I would move. Slashing tires and shouting obscenities are solutions for the inept. BTW, there are no fish in SIC, don't bother to fish there. ;) Oh the waves suck too. ;)

I surf and I fish...Sounds like a great idea to designate areas for everyone. Not every surfer is a f-in moron like a few of these guys arguing on here. A nice 5oz dipsy to the head may be the cure ;)

Anyway, I've been surfing Brig for 20 years and it's about time they came up with a solution. Thanks for all your hard work.

All us surfers ask is to not cast out when we are already out there! It sucks to be catching waves and to have a whole crew of fishermen to come out and start casting in front of me. I've been hooked several times by fishermen who have PURPOSLY tried to hook me. Had to get stiches in my lip etc.... trust me it sucks... so from now on, i cut lines when they are cast in front of me..... it sucks to have to retaliate but hey... when you get hooked in your Fckin lip.. you learn a little for next time... And yea i will respect you if you already claimed the spot and alreadt started casting out I wont barge in... Its the shoobs that mess SHOOT up, dont blame all surfers just the kooks

Sorry guys, Never thought putting a report up here would result in all this nonsense. I,ll try to keep you all posted on the Brigantine situation but maybe by secret code. If you see a post "The Dasies are in bloom". That will really be about the Brigantine situation but don't tell any surfers that think they own the beach. I think that would only be about 3% of them because most of them are normal just like us. At least I think a guy standing on the beach in Jan freezing to death with a pole in his hand catching nothing but Skates just hoping that the one Striper that might still be out there will find his little piece of Clam and bite it so he can be eaten for dinner is normal, DON'T YOU !!! How about the multiple times that I have been standing on a jetty and ten surfers paddle out right through my lines when I was there first. It's a two way street that some people fail to realize. It makes me just as mad as a fisherman casting into you while you're surfing. It's ashame thats your mentality about the situation "I will cut your line" or "You deserve it..."
You're right it is not OUR ocean just as it's not YOURS, but we all use it for different activities. This all stems back to your first few years of life when you were taught to share. If fisherman were there first leave just as I would if surfers were there first.

Just wanted to let you guys know that it looks like we will have our fishermans beach by March 1st. The entire city council has come out on favor of it and wants it done. Do you think packing city hall with a bunch of mad fishermen with a lot of loud things to say had anything to do with it ??? Thanks to all Barners for your support. Phil
