Here's a real sweetheart that will do that reel justice-but be prepared to open up the wallet-the blank lists for around $380!
Lami-Ron Arra XRA 138 1H Its 11-6, 1 piece, 4-12 oz. Big Basstard has one in stock ;)
With a few years of practice you too can throw 600+ feet

Breakaway 11'9". got a buddy who consistantly hits 100 yds w/ 5 and a clam w/ that combo.
I'm getting there w/ my Abu Sports Mag on it.
If you e-amil me I can give ya the name of a shop that sells them a lot cheaper than anyone else in the area.

You can't go wrong with Lami or Breakaway.

If I have something its because it is a supurb piece of equipment. I use my gear quite a bit...if I dont like it....its gone ;) You dont have to C&R but its encouraged :D I know most Barners have the fish grab mentality but its a shame more wont open their eyes to the big picture :( redface.gif tongue.gif ;) :D

My buddy has a Tica for plugging and its not bad. I dont know about throwing bait but they seem to have had good reviews from the people who own them. Cheap as heck too. Chunking bait dosnt take much so check out the Tica if you are on a budget.

Red,
These $300 rods everyone is talking about are sweet. We have a few but for weight and bait I go back to the ugly stick. 12' for around $80. Fuji guides, built like a tank. Not the lightest to hold, after about six hours my back starts crying but you can spike it to get a break and stretch. Plus I can really lay into it without worrying I may break it.
If you can swing it Lamiglass are real nice. My brother has a 1322 blank, I think it's the blank, really made for BIG plugs up North. Like someone on another board said using that rod to throw weight and bait is like using a Corvette to take trash to the dump but He loves it, I use it too. 11'6" and it's as light as a feather and will deliver 5 ounces no problem.
Another option could be a 9'MHS Lamiglass, with that you can throw plugs and lures plus get away with 3 ounces and bait.
I guess the first question should be, what do you plan to use it for? Bait? Lures? How much lead do you need with bait etc... In SIC you can normally use 3-4 ounces.
Good luck

With the Penn you have to be throwing bait. This means you have to go with the 11'9" Breakaway 2XH. Once you throw it you will use nothing else. Phil

Thanks everyone, bait is my usual choice. I have a few Loomis rods but if I spend 3 beans the wifey will have a stroke. 3-4 oz' usually is all I need Henry. How much are the breakaways? Anyone have one they want to get rid of?

Red,
I'm not a surf guy but thought I'd throw in tip that a surf sharpie friend who religiously fishes ISBP with much success. He just came into my shop the other day and we were shooting the breeze on who got what fishing equipment from Santa. He started telling me about about a 10'6" Heavy Action Tica he just got for tossing heavy lead/bait and LOVES it,light as a feather and tosses it a mile!!!He has plenty high end stuff as well, but could'nt pass up this good value.
He also turned me on to another sweet rod for plugging the surf/sod banks and I also use this rod for tossing jigs to the lighthouses on the Deleware Bay for weaks/stripers with great success. It is an 8'6" St. Croix (Wild River Series Salmon/Steelhead rod) Model WS86H2 MOD-FAST ACTION,12-25LB,1/2-2OZ.
It casts light stuff a mile and has unbeleivble sesitivity. I absolutely LOVE it.
Good luck with that Tica. Let me know how you like it. ;)

I would agree with you that the Croix you spoke of is a great rod but your signature says Fillet and Release ;)
