Fishing the Longport jetty... the inside one by the parking lot. If I cast to the left, I am fishing the ocean(?), if I cast to the right, I am fishing the inlet...

So is there an imaginary line from the Ocean City Beach side to the Longport Beach that I am not supposed to fish inside of.... or is it just a crapshoot where you hope you get a CO that is as unclear about this as eveyone I talk to. We even called a local B&T that said you could only fish one side of the jetty, which I thought was totally odd and unenforceable (Honest officer, I was not fishing the Right side, I was just casting over there so the outgoing 12 kt tidal rip would take my bait down on the Left side).

I don't fish alot of water because it is illegal, and join all responsible fisherman in following the rules (even though I don't agree with LOTS of them) and would like to know what is the right and wrong in this spot... little help here?

i was told a couple of years ago,by a co,that the jetty you are talking about(the one by the parking lot)was in the inlet so no fish could be kept when caught from it.he also said, the other jetty was legal from the left side but he wasn't sure about the right side.does this strike you as
slightly crazy or what!and there are people in
longport that watch you and will call the police on you!lovely town,eh?

If you look at a chart there's a very real line of demarcation. I think most of the jetty is beyond the mark. I really don't think a CO would bother you anywhere on the jetty.

I was under the impressions there is no closed season on striped bass in the atlantic ocean from 0 to 3 miles off shore - which includes the fishing from the beach. Is the season closed in the bays and inlets?
