plugging rod

wondering if anyone does strictly plugging from the surf? an what kind of rod is good for plugging? any help would be great as i am replenishing my lures an looking for a new rod an reel. :cool:

Just keep it it light.

9' is the standard for a plugging rod, go up to 10' if you need the distance but they you'll have to pay more for something really light.

Anything from the Tica to the Ron Arra will work well, just make sure it's a light graphite rod.

best thing to do is go and feel em'. depends also on what you want to throw, 1oz plugs - 3oz plugs - 2 different rods. cork tape or cork, thats up to you. spinning or conventional? finally the budget..what do you want to spend? HotShot series from G Loomis is a great versatile rod, light tip for lures under 1oz but enough backbone to drift eels for bass and drift baits for fluke, mine is conventional(7' 10") with a calcutta 400 but they do make a few spinning models. i think the whole length thing is over rated(not disagreeing with Bob :D ), properly set up you will do just fine. im 5'7" and if im casting a 10 ftr all day that is cumbersome no matter how light or heavy it is. go with what your comfortable with. you wont cast well no matter what the length is if it doesnt fit you correctly and YOU are the judge of that. if ya have any questions feel free to email me.

The Lamiglass RON ARRA XSRA 1084 is a good all around rod. I would definitely check it out.

For plugging the surf with wood I have a 9' Loomis Surf Series but am also getting the Ron Arra in 9' soon. My buddy has 8' Loomis and he felt a little undergunned at times. Some guys use 8 1/2' and love um'. I was at a few places and situations when I wish I had 10'. Try to get a feel for what you will throw the most and what conditions you will be fishing and go from there. Its hard to pin down one rod for everything. I can still throw bombers with my 9' and switch to a 3oz plug if need be. If I had to say one length, go with 9'.

i have an 8ft loomis with a fin nor megalite...this rod is good for the majority of the fishing i do aroudn here...i just recently bought a 10ft lamiglass one piece....like everyone else said you really have to go feel it out for yourself....
