I will be running a 33" boat from the mouth of the river to Cape May Canal later this week. The weather report indicates strong westerly winds which if I recall cause the bay to be rough. Can someone give me some local info regarding what winds and the tide effect combined with the wind. Also what are the favorable winds.

Thanks

welcome aboard
33 foot boat you wont have a problem driving responsibly depending on how strong you are talking.
west wind will be kind of pushing you.
something like 165 degrees from no 2 buoy.little more than 13 miles
outgoing tide should be ok,incoming tide will be wind against tide, choppy
wenesday and thursday look fine...tuesday does not.

Also, use caution when passing behind the ferries. The canal gets quite shallow along the bank opposite of the ferry terminal. Have a safe trip.

You will be fine running from the maurice to CM. Its a heading of about 160-170* and 13-15 miles or so from the cans so a north wind will be on your ass. Anything less than 20 knots of wind is more than safe as long as your vessel is up to the task.

The shoal is now marked with 2 red buoys. Stay on the ferry side.
