I have spent most of my life fishing from a boat,Three years ago I moved to Fortescue and started fishing from the beach mostly late at night.
I was purchaseing Lume Sticks 1 1/2" green side taped to the end of the surf poles, They lasted for a good 5 hrs but at a buck apeace it gets expensive with 2 or 3 rods fishing 3 or 4 nites a week. i baught redeyes and like them very much but they are very bright red.
I found this site for Glow/Lume sticks and with a quanety buy they can be had for around 12c a pop.Thought I would share this with you.Mike

Andy, when you need batteries, go to Radio Shack.
They do work well, don't they?

I guess the Red eyes that I use are breakaway they lock into a nylon bracket on the end of the rod, Yes they do work very well,I bought them from NY terminal tackle 6.50 a pop+ shipping well worth the money! Now I found them at Sportsmens Outpoast Friesmill rd Williamstown same price!!
I also like the green lume sticks 1 1/2" size for the boat fishing 4 or 5 rods the green is easy on your eyes and will not confuse an oncoming vessel.
I posted the info for those that have been paying exorbinate price for lume sticks not implying one is better than the other, The red eyes have been on my surf poles from Oct thru Thanksgiving and like the Everready Bunny still running when needed. Mike :D

They are both great ways to luminate the rods .... That is one concern I have as well when using them , I always carry a 1 million power cordless spotlight just in case a vessel thinks they may be channel markers at night ..   Safe to say it never happened , but you have to be prepared for the unexpected I actually super glue the unit to the slider, and glue the slider to the rod tip.. I have forgotten a couple of times to take them off when casting and just watched my red eye.. $6.50 worth fly in the air and suddenly disappear in the water .. Lesson learned .
Tim ,
Thats where I always get my Batteries for the red eyes ... I always have 2 sets of back ups just in case... I'm getting myself set up this year , and I'll be a fishing Machine... I have to get Tom away from that TIVO this year... That is my mission, I hope we all can get out
You are right though the green sticks are great for distance , and the reds are for closer up, but one time I was cuaght in a blitz at night with 5 poles all going nuts, had 3 hook ups, and had a big mess in the end ... needless to say 2 rods are good for me especially at night , day time I'll do 4 ,

I went and tried one of these websites for the glowsticks...eglowbiz.com, they seem sort of sketchy as my online order failed to go through, so i called and placed a order and everything went fine from that point on...To get to the point, i got 240 of these for $38 i have enough of these to last id say at least a few years. Compared to the $1 a piece i pay at tackle or walmarts for these. Also i checked one of these out, i broke one at 6pm and at 7 am the next morning it was still really bright. I got an assortment of green, blue, and purple sticks. I just wanted to leave some feedback that its a good deal for anyone who thought of looking into these.

I use the glow sticks from jetties... Put one on the running line just above a float when floating bloods... (I usually fish 1 pole at a time for this) Looks really cool to see that glow stick zip off underwater as a striper or tiderunner takes it for a ride.
They do last a whole night's fishing.. but I guess if I was fishing from the sand, using rod-tip lights, I'd go for something of the LED variety...
