i am there next year too one idea i have to get more people there next year we should make that if u dont show ur bassbarn status is thrown out :D i think that way we will have a mess load of guys. and a litlle more organization for next year will be key

Yo Brian, you can't have a contest where one team has 50 more lines in the water....that's not a contest, that's a stacked deck. If you get it worked out shoot for a fall contest, me and Sheet will get in on it.
Bob D'Amico
05-24-2004, 01:50 PM
Now guys don't exaggerate, we didn't have our full roster show up and we did have kids and real surf fishing "newbies." By my count we didn't have 50 more lines in the water, just 28. I think we actually had the same number of people on our roster until the last week when we had numerous additional registrations.
If the championship was decided on total weight landed, we would have smoked you since we were tossing back "slot fish" up and down the beach.
Keep in mind that the tournament is to benefit the RFA, we should recruit as many people as possible!
THE BEST THING, aside from whipping you was that Team BassBarn and Team StriperSurf swept the Youth Division. Striper101, you need to add those boys to Team BassBarn roster next year!

We should get something setup for the fall. I cant wait another year. Even 2:1 is an unfair advantage.

Even had they weighed in their slots, they would have had to weigh in over 68 pounds to match us man for man. And I know I counted no less than 28 members at the end celebration. Maybe 30.
When I consider the disadvantage the Barn was at, we did fantastic. We will be prepared to negate the SSc advantages and get them next year. Although, I would like to get some payback a little sooner, like a night tourney in the summer or like Mullaney says, one in the fall.

I think 28 more lines in the water is a bit unfair Bob, as I said, there should be rules. I wanted to see how this one played out before I joined the fray. I would be glad to participate in a fall tourney if there are guidelines. To fish in a one sided deal with no real chance just isn't interesting to me. Where is Bucket? I'll bet I could coax Fishbucket out too. So Brian and Cowboy see if that's a possibility, it would be a nice way to spend a Saturday in the fall.

everyone needs to fish up north - once ya do, you will always want to go back. Im lucky because Im in Central NJ - a little more north but I can easily get from Sandy Hook to Cape May.

Since we are talking Next Year....
And I Heard It Mentioned From Some of the
NJ ANGLER Staff,I think with the resurgance
of a DrumFish Bite over the last few Springs
it should be added into the Competition,
especially with the Weakfish and Bluefish
Decline's over the same time period......

I agree Steve - Drum are being caught further north each year.
I hope they keep the yak division.

I was in the same boat, um broken car, as eelball. I'm in next year for sure. Was able to make it up to the Pequest for an open house so I wasn't too bummed out from missing the tourney.

Bob,
The 2 boys were on the roster for team BassBarn, that's how we were so close to you guys! ;) I know both boys are looking forward to the tourney next year!
Steve,
Great job keeping in touch with us all! And thanks for the paperwork you handed out! It was very helpfull! And I think they should include Drum in the tourney too!

It was good to finally put some faces with the names. Cowboy, Brian, Jonny, you guys were good company on a slow day. Thought I'd let you know I went back to the same spot that night and beached two bass 28 and 36. Lots of sharks and skates too......I am in for a fall tourny if we can get it together... Maybe down here in our turf. Corsons, OC Strathmere area......

Name the place & time. I'll be there, wherever.
Great job Steve, on the organization.
Its really gnawing at me that I didnt get any fish. I was throwing everything I had towards the end.
I'm definitely in favor of a fall tourney.

I can't wait until next year either, but Bob A. you do have to admit fishing on your turf and having double the amount of people fishing does have an advantage. So I like the idea of having a fall tournment on our turf vs SSC for good cause like the RFA because I can't wait to scrape that sticker off my truck :0)
Gilly21,
The Bass you caught is that the area we talked about at weigh in? Good to hear somebody caught some fish.

Hey, guys, don't worry about the "home turf" thing. I honestly don't think it made a difference. Next year get a few more guys, spread 'em out along the beach, keep in touch as the day goes on, and make adjustments as necessary. Let's face it, in the end TBB was only 1 fish behind!
I don't know 'bout you, but I always like being the underdog. smile.gif
Again, thanks for being involved...we really appreciate it!
Dr. Bass
05-25-2004, 06:33 PM
I like being the underdog too, Bill.
Some mistakes I made that can be shared is I gave the west sodbanks too much time. It is shallow there down from A15 to A21. You need to wade at least 100 yards, and the fish there are small.
I could not have given the surf more of an effort. Soaked a clam for about 5 hours straight. Changed to a fresh bait every 20 minutes or so. Rod did not get put down once and my biceps/back can tell. Saw ONE striper caught in all that time. I did fish the the same areas I mentioned above. I really think the Yak thing should be where most guys go next year with a few in the surf. All in all I think that even the locals would admit the bite was just not on that day??

Johnny No I cought the base in the exact same spot I was parked for the beginning or the tournement. Right where Cowboy, Bill and I were. That spot looked sooo good to not go back that night... Bass were just late for lunch I guess...Might get a hold of you in a couple weeks to do some flukin too. I love those tasty critters.

Gilly21,
Only if the tournment was 24 hours. shoot me email when you want to go. I caught some nice fluke last Sunday, 4 keeper, 5 throwbacks. I just had for lunch a fried fluke/tomato sandwich. The fluke fishing should be really good in couple weeks.

CORRECTION!!!
NW Rec Dept Surf Fishing Tournament is weekend after LABOR DAY!! My bad redface.gif
Again, cooridnation with NW Rec Dept WILL BE A MUST (Buddy, you out lurking there!! tongue.gif ) NJ Angler Bill, you need to sponsor another surf fishing tourney??? Do you know Buddy T (NW Rec. Dept. super).
Another possibility is the NJBBA Individual Surf Fishing tourney sponsored by NJ Beach Buggy (Great Fall Classic), October 11-12 (Yes, this is an individual "overnight" tournament). Beach buggy pass "usually" waived for tourney participants. On the beach(s) of Wildwoods...Bob D's payback time tongue.gif
You guys let me know, I'll make the intial contacts or pick another place...

As captain Of team SSc I must warn ya, You guys would be better off raking the lawn or cleaning the gutters. OUR team has been hard at work all winter We are a finally tuned casting machine. Don't waste your toll money.
As far as bringing The SSc killin machine down here. Another silly move There are one or two members that have made there living along the beach. Yours truly can be seen everyday of the fall pickin along certain stretch of beach. In the surf mind ya.
Please I beg ya don't do this to yourselves again. redface.gif I can't stand watching you guys  suffer.
