I see many of these really nice wooden plugs being made by many of the barners, my question is if any of you make or tried to make hard plastice lures or whatever they are made of like the bombers As? If possible would like to give it a try.

Interesting Question Ba,
As you can see by my last posts, the level of customs are growing constantly. The skill & craftsmanship that goes into many of these plugs is almost unreal.
And when you get into the the highly realistic finishes, hydrodynamics & weight calibration you are really displaying your talents. You don't see many custom synthetics because then you get into tooling, molds etc...And the cost of building a bait goes way up. Plus....you have to keep testing until the final model is complete. You can frequently wind up making several protos before you have a functional bait and each mold costs you.
Wood is much easier to modify & fine tune if needed so I think that is one of the main reasons that you don't see many custom plastics on the market. However, I'm not saying by any means wooden lure builders have it easy. I know for fact, the time & effort that goes into developing/building a quality wood bait are extremely extensive. It takes an exceptional lure maker to compete in todays custom scene.

While I completely agree with "G", I will add that there have been a few guys who have played around with making molds and pouring foam plugs. Mold materials were made from bondo autobody filler, plaster, or a similar material. I remember there was a particular eurothane foam that a few seemed happy with the results.
Heres a link you definately want to check out if you want to get a feel for whats involved in molding foam lures.

I hope its ok to link to this site, but the info is too good not to share.

I prefer wood over any plastic - not to say I don't like and use plastic , but I'd rather fish wood.
