CON,
Not sure if I can make this event, but maybe.
I plan to do the next seminar at whale creek on the 19th. I recently saw advert. for AVCET reels. The one shown was an SX model. I was wondering if they would be a better choice than a PENN 975 or the 525M for fishing . If you have some feedback, let me know. Thanks.

I like both the 525 and the avet sx . The 975 is ok but expensive . Avets are $155 , the 525 usually around $140 . I have magged my avet and I am magging one for someone else now . I have test cast the avet 550' on the field and on the beach it will cast as well as my 525's . I like the avet for the lever drag , it lets me set the drag to operate like the baitrunner feature on the shimano spinning reels when I dead stick .
The avet holds a little more line than the 525 if you need it . Either reel is a good choice .Karen is going to start selling the avets and she already has the 525 in stock .

Here are the directions to the field.

From the Rt 70 and Rt 73 Circle (Marlton Circle) take Rt 70 East to North Elmwood Road (appx 2 miles). Make a right (South) onto North Elmwood and go to Main Street (Rt 620). Make a left (East) onto Rt 620 and go one mile to the entrance to the Memorial Sports Complex on the right. Enter the Complex and proceed to rear of the large indoor recreation building and go through the metal gate and park in the ?Plant-A-Patch? field along the tree line.

connman,i remember reading that a lever drag reel is never 100% in free spool.if true, wouldn't that affect distance?

Fish , the avet drag fully disengages , the reel is so free spinning that you really have to add some breaking to make it a surf reel ,oil or mags and the right line level all work to control this sweet little reel . I know Avet touts a breaking system build into the reel but I have found that went this is adjusted to provide some casting breaking the strike drag is too high so I just set my strike drag to my liking and cast the reel in free spool mode.

On behalf of the Northeast Casting Club, I want to thank all of the people who participated in the tournament. Special thanks goes to Chuck Wilson and Sportscast USA for making this event possible, Jim Johnson for providing the field equipment and measuring the distances, Bob Bott for recording the distances, Bob Sales for doing a superb job with keeping the event moving along by calling the casters to the oche and operating the laser prism, and all of the other people who helped out with the many little jobs that needed to be done to make this event a success. There were six ?first-time? casters, two adults and four teenagers. The weather was cloudy and humid with variable winds.
