Over the last 8 days, my buddy & I have fished Corson's Inlet hard for weakies morning, evening and/or night; incoming, outgoing and slack tides. The result is one 31", 7+ Lber on a dark Long A, a spike, a 20" striper, and assorted blues to 3+ Lbs. It is really sporadic. Seems like whatever time we went, someone just caught a couple an hour before. We did get the last laugh Sunday morning. When we started fishing at 5 AM, one of the all night crew had 2 nice trout on the beach, only to have a fox carry the biggest one off. From the looks of that scrufty fox, he needed it.
Ok, what did you expect a brown bear. Anyway, I am ready to hit LBI with bunker or clam, just to hear that reel sing. Come on tuna time.

Herb M,
Welcome To The BassBarn.Com,
Glad To Have You Aboard...............

That Fishermen with the Stolen Trout is
our very own Member (BGSDAD) and that scruffy
Fox is due some payback because Bruce has been
fishing Hard also for some Weakfish this year..

And your right its been very sporadic down there
but the Fish are Nice One's and Some Excellent
Fights To Go Along With Them on Light Tackle....

Good Luck Up On LBI.............

1) Go easy on the locations when you post. You'll have a lot more fishing room!

2) I left at 3:30 am so I guess it was someone else told you about the weakfish but they were nice 30" & 29". The fox got the 30" but the 29" was fatter

3) I don't have an exact count but between me & my buddies (Strikes & Ron) we over 10 weakies, 10 bass. We usually don't count blues but we have well over 10 of them too.

4) I am well aware of the fox there. The suprising part was that I was leaving in 10 minutes when I caught the fish back to back and the fox got the fish that quick!

5) Try using a different lure. Most of are fish if not all were caught on a black or purple ---------. Do the research on the board and you'll find the answer!

6) Me and the fox had fresh weakfish for dinner Sunday. What did you have?

I told a buddy of mine that I saw a red fox in the marsh in that area and he never believed me. I'll show him the post.

There's also deer all over that area. I've seen from the beach near 59th St back to the sods on 51st St.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Bgsdad, I will keep your advice in mind, but I didn't think that giving up a place where I had caught one good fish in 8 days was too big a deal. If you & friends have been doing that well though, I understand and point taken.
My one good weakie was taken on a black & purple --------. I usually go with darker lures at low light and lighter colors at other times. My bro got a 32" this AM on a salt & pepper --------. Aside from lures, the tide seems to be a major key also.
I had a great soft shell dinner at the Crab Trap, but I am sure your dinner was sweeter.

Very polite reply Herb.

Next time just mention the ocean you were fishing, possibly the state but you must stop there to avoid over crowding!

Welcome aboard

fishnherb Great Job Herb! Just some friendly advice on the locations. There's a lot of lurkers on this board! Glad you didn't take anything personal! :D We like to have some fun on the board once in awhile. Look for me a Corson's. 2 tone brown f150 with a brown cap!

Thanks Wasteman,
I get the idea--keep it real general.

Bgsdad,
I'm usually in a green accura with Md. plates. I am heading to Sarasota for tarpon next week, but I will look for you when I get back. PS. got a 34+ this AM; nice fish and he's still swimming.

I can neither confirm nor deny the location of our Ocean, I will divulge that there is a very large and muddy river close by --- If the rain ever stops there are rumors the smallmouth fishing is excellant!

Great thread guys... was fun to read. Bgsdad - I have seen your truck there in the past. I am heading down tomorrow, thinking about going to the seminar at Whale Creek Marine that will cover jetty, bay and bridge fishing techniques for stripers and weakfish. Then hitting the surf for kings during the afternoon low, and then either the sods or inlet in the evening. Does this sound like a good plan for the day? I am open to suggestions.

RhinoScores,Black or Purple MirroLures from dusk to dawn for weakies and bass. If your fishing in the back at night and Bass are bustin add a small black & Purple or Black Bomber to your arsenal. From the bridge Pink Zooms on 1/2 oz leadheads. I don't do much daytime fishing there but I would think Bloods, Clams & Bunker/Herring Chunks. If you catch any Kings try choppin off a head and putting that out for Stripers. They work great!

I'll be fishing Corsons Monday evening.
I believe high tide is around 11 o'clock.
I'll be fishing incoming with plugs.
Hopefully I'll get my first Corson striper of the year.

Thanks Bgsdad for the info. And Happy Father's Day. I am hitting OC on Monday morning with my 16 yr-old son. I hope the bay is calm as I am bring my dingy (12') to try the back sods. If not I guess we'll walk. We have to try the daytime as he has a baseball game at 8:30 PM.

ReadyJettyGo, how did you do last Monday? I was there all day, fished clam during incoming till 4PM - nada! I added bloods to the mix for the last couple hours of outgoing - nada! I least I caught a tan.

One more thing, what is with the guys sitting in beach chairs thru out the dunes? I hope it's not being over run by something other than greenheads.

Same here, NADA.
Boy, was it windy. Fished for about 2 hours at sunset. I think I broke my arm trying to cast 20 yards into the wind.
I did catch a shorty on the beach thenext morning.
