when i was in college at West Chester, some friends and i would hit westtown lake. there are some nice crappie in there, along with lots of blue gills and largemouth bass. we also used to fish the west chester reservoir, but for some reason i don't think that you're allowed to anymore.
on a side note, i was reading 'noreaster magazine yesterday, and i saw a mention that for out of staters, the price of a PA fishing license went from $34.50 to $51. add a trout stamp on that, and you're at $66. that is an expensive license. i haven't bought one in about five years, and when i did, i only got about one or two days in trout fishing. it's way too expensive now.

I think the Schukyll is one of the most underated spots in PA.

The Brandywine creek is great fishing. Lots of smallmouth, some largemouth, bluegills, early on even some trout that wash down from areas stocked upstream.

For The Greater Philadelphia Area, Number One
Spot In April/May would be the Wissahicken Creek
In Fairmont Park for Stocked Trout...
Maybe From Green Valley up around Andora down
to Say Walnut Lane in Roxborough..
Plenty of Access Points, One of My Favorites
is the Bridge crossing the Creek over up to
Chestnut Hill...
For Smallie's,Big Catfish and Carp. I got do go
with FlatRock Dam and Below on the Schukyll River.
You Can Access The Area From Points in
Manyyunk....

A good place to take the kids fishing is the neshaminy creek in warwick. You can park on Mill rd and walk downstream to the wing dam. It is loaded with smallmouth bass, rock bass, sunfish, monster carp and if you go in the spring time there are alot of trout in there.

Fairmount Dam in center city Philly. Season starts in early march with the walleye, then catfish, carp, smallies, shad into late march and throughout april, then the stripers show up following the herring. A musky here and there, A hot crappie bite every now and then. WHite perch come in throughout june, then smaller stripers, catfish, carp and bass are the summer staples straight through the cold season.
The walleye should be active in a few weeks.
Definitaly the most overlooked place to catch walleye in all of pennsylvania. Where and when is a different story.... ;)
I only walleye fished here once last year, got one walleye on my first cast and only stayed for 2 hours. I've seen lots of pictures though, so I know they are there in numbers. Talked to many who catch them every time they go.
the stripers are also a lot of fun around mothers day.
Don't bring the kids. Dangerous fishing. Deep water, fast current, jagged slippery rocks, shady people...But really outstanding fishing.

Susquehana River. Drift from Duncannon to Marysville for a 100 fish day. It's also good around TMI in Middletown. Be sure to stop in and say hi to Bob Clouser.

The Schuylkil from Norristown up passed Phoenixville is a very under rated bassin' spot. Also good for Channel catties on chicken livers. I saw one musky caught from that section on 12/31/98. It went about 12 lbs. The angler said he catches 2 or 3 a year in late December and then again in early March. He was using live suckers.
The Del up above New Hope, if you're wading you really have to search for places to fish because it's mostly private property (one the PA side, don't know about NJ) but it's great for smallies & some of the most senic areas around.
Fairmont Dam is a great place to fish but you can break your neck if you're not careful.

There are streams off of the 209 corrider North of Lehighton that are kid friendly and stocked with some nice trout. A good one is Dotters ck., off of 534. Easy access for the one youngs, my boys learned to trout fish there. Email me if you want better directions.

One of my favorite places is "Blue Marsh" in Berks County. No horsepower limit, has a no wake area, two boat lanches, one for larger boats, one for smaller boats(off of rt.183) picnic area, swimming area with bbq areas, also a great place to hunt during small/big game season. It even has a nice ski area. Not too hard to please the whole family.worth the trip 80 milles from W.W.bridge.

The Schuylkill & Perkiomen are nice spots but the quality of the fishing has gone down in the last few years. I used to be able to catch smallies to 20" in the Perky now I'm lucky to catch them 12". Its probably all the building & run-off from the new parking lots. And its not looking very "scenic" anymore. Cookie cutter houses springing up everywhere.
