Anybody ever fish the Del at night during the spring run from shore? I haven't heard much about this.

I have a few times and surprisingly I didnt do as well as the day time. The sun gets the flats heated up and the fish moving. Im talking EARLY here.

Mid april and into may and june the night bite can be great . Of course i'm in a boat so you might find it otherwise, although i would think it applies to bank anglers also.

I have fished it in the dark and never done all that well. Come to think of it I don't think I ever caught a bass on the river after dark.

Fished the River from shore a few years ago at night at one of my favorite striper haunts....and yes, you can catch them well at night....When the herring run starts, the herring schools will often come close to shore, bringing the bass with them....Caught (and saw caught) a number of nice bass on one particular outing using live-lined herring....Nothing huge, on that night, but one bass was 20+ lbs on the boga.....One night a decided to live-line a sunfish (weighted near bottom) using my saltwater/surf outfit--- had a BIG fish on (and I was fishing where the stripers were feeding/breaking the surface) that actually had this rod bent in half like I've never seen it before...unfortunately the drag was set too tightly and the fish broke off....oh well, keeps me going back---------Mike

I have not fished the river in a few years but i use to fish right below the wing dam in New Hope in the dark and I did very good on stripers throwing Long A Bombers into the rapids at night. I pulled a few fish out of there over 15 pounds. The best fishing was in may and early june.

I fish at night and do ok,but the best bites seem to be 2hrs before sunset to 2hrs after. In the dogs days of summer night is the only way to go.
Thanks for the imput guys. My work schedule & new work location won't be able to have my line in the water everyday at my favorite haunt by 4:30 like I did last year  The place I usually fish closes it's gate to the public at sundown so I never bothered to stay. I always had great luck on bloods right at dusk.

You were using one of their favorite foods for bait.
