Building a new rod...suggestions?

Just recieved a blank in the mail. It is 7 foot, med/heav action with a fast taper. It is rated for 8 - 14 lb test. I am wondering if I should cut it down a bit to 6'6" or 6'10". I will primarily be throwing topwater and using it to fish worms.

It seems your trying to do a lot with one rod.
Worming and plugging rods have different criteria for the task at hand but since you are going to do both i would leave it at 7'
Some other guy's might disagree, i think your best bet might be to ask in the tackle box forum so i'm gonna move this one over there.
