Anyone been out yet?
I am gonna do a shake down run with my boat on sunday and will probably fish for a little bit.
Don't want to fish real long, but I am gonna mark out the Yawp shore with a fish finder and look for a couple of deep holes.

I was thinking about trying my luck doing the same down the Egg Harbor and maybe up the Tuckahoe. Hit Beesley's Point along the way.

MV,
Do the rocks around Burcham's corner hold perch? I've heard of some good stripers taken out of there.

Fly,
Never tried the rocks. I am gonna mainly explore on sunday. Maybe I will try jigging a worm around the rocks.

I don't know about the rocks but across from the rocks the perch are abundant all year long. Margaritaville, I may hit the dock on Sunday (if the B-Ball games go sour) so maybe I will see you zoom by. What type of boat should I be looking for? Also what/where is the Yawp shore?? Either I have never heard of this or my brian is locked up.

mudcat,
I will have a C-hawk 200
The yawp shore is at the end of Yawp Shore Road.
Yawp shore road is on Rt 47 before you get to rt 55 heading south.
There are currently two piers there, one for Dr. Nemore and Bob Pennington. Just a little bit further south is the old abandoned shack on the lake side of the river.
I have not perch fished in years, so I am looking forward to just playing around for a little bit

Across from the rocks is private property so unless one is a member you can only fish there by boat. One of those spot things again!

Whiteyr,
You are correct it is private property and I happen to be the owner of one of those docks. It was my Grandfather's land long before LLPOA laid claim to it.

Margaritaville,
Now I know where you are talking about. I can see that area from where I am. I don't know of any holes there but I also didn't look! There did used to be a small wreck at the corner when I was a kid, in fact my brother and I took the canoe there and took the steering wheel from the wreck.

If your putting in at Fowser Street on heading down river, after you go by the grain mills, the river takes a bend to the right, head over to the right on that reach and there's a nice perch hole ,I've always done well there. There is also an eagle's nest in the tall pine tree at the end of that reach,so take your binoculars.

Wow Mudcat - you're from one of the family's in the area that go way back! It's amazing how long ago that area was settled. I've spoken with Henry [from the farm stand down the road] and he can tell some stories! Do you know how Henry's doing these days?

Isn't the actual "Yawp Shore" where they would offload the barges years ago, or something like that? I heard that from someone. It's the shoreline just north of Burcham place.
Down past Spring Garden Marina there are some riffle-y areas that look too prime to not hold fish. I wonder if they'd be good? I've been on the Maurice a zillion + 3 times, but rarely with a fishing rod. D'oh!!

Whiteyr,
You must be talking about Henry Reeves from the farm stand. As far as I know he is still kicking, however he has lost a portion of his hearing. When I was a kid my Grandfather and him were good friends and every time we stopped at his stand Henry would have a joke for him.
A good spot for Perch for me as a kid was down river at the "Red farmhouse". This is down the river where the Manumuskin comes in.

Margaritaville,
I forgot to ask...are you targeting white or yellow?? The yellow should be around soon if you know where to look ( and I think that you do).

mud,
I was hoping for white.
I have no clue where to target yellow perch (Don't laugh)
The yawp shore area is a very clean bottom and I know there are some deep spots, but no stumps or structure to hide. I want o try and look for a couple of holes in that area as well as a stump that we get hung up on when we haul the nets.
Fly,
The Yawp Shore is the shore line just SOUTH of Burchams.

Hmm, I've been told differently by more than one person. They specifically pointed out the shoreline just north of the Burchams corner as the Yawpshore. I remember it because, well, my company owns that land ;) . Maybe they were wrong, or maybe both that shoreline and the shoreline south of the Menantico are both called Yawpshore. I really don't have any idea.

Fly,
If you take Rt 47 through Millville, heading towards the junction with the end of RT55. you will see a toad called Yawp Shore road. It is across the street from the old Pirates Cove (yellow dilapidated building)
If you take that to a dead end, it will lead you to the Maurice river and Yawp shore.
From the River, if you are heading south, you will hit Burchams property, then the Menantico creek entrance, then the Yawp shore, Then Donald Fahrbachs pier, then Spring Garden Marina
I will have to ask someone about the beach on the north side of Burchams property. I forget what it was called.
To my knowledge, the Burcham twins sold or donated their land to Rutgers. One of the twins just recently passed away.
If I remember correctly, you work for NC or NLT? what land did you guys buy down that way?

I am familiar with Yawpshore Rd. Been down there a few times.
I work with TNC; we own the property directly behind the Burcham's farm, the old Steenland tract (100+ acres). If you go down their driveway you drive right through the middle of it. It hits the river on both sides of the bend. The beach directly north of the dike is part of our property. We also own a few more little pieces along Rt 47 there.
Sorry to hear one of the sisters passed away. I didn't know that. Do you know which one?
