happy new year all...
read some articles on the spring run of stripers -- it kinda said they were mostly caught on bait --
what do you all use ? are lures ineffective during the spring run? if so, when should one start using lures (when baitfish show up?)

Snapper4,
Happy new year right back at ya buddy! Bucktails should be consistant producers come spring in terms of lures.

I kinda wait until things start to thaw out,
usually sometime in March early or late depending
on the weather and the preceding winter...
That means water temps above 40-heading to 50
degrees.Herring and Mackeral arrive and the
backbay creatures come alive.I throw the usual
Bombers and Jig Plastic around the Inlets, bridges
bays etc...
If your looking for BigFish,Liveline some Live
Herring in your Favorite Spots...
Big BloodWorms also take their share of Bass Also in the Spring...
Good Luck,,,
Happy New Year To You Also Snapper4,,

Early March fishing in the Great Bay and Mullica River area for the Bass is mostly a bait fishery... clams / bloodworms... as water temps begin to rise and the bay comes alive, jigging bucktails or trolling the Stretch series Mann's lures are effective.
Can't wait for spring !!!! :D

Depends where you are fishing on what you would use.

Play it safe.
Take live bait, cut bait, bucktails, plugs, worms and your wits. If they are around something will work. :D

I am a herring addict - like big Herring flies once the water reaches 50 degrees.
Spro bucktails are my other go to in the spring.
