First of all let me thank the dude I met at the 8th street avalon jetty with all the marine life tats, for putting me on to this site.
Now, my beef is this; why aren't anglers encouraged to fish?
First of all, anglers spend the most money in bait and tackle shops, spend the most money in fishing communities and contribute to tourism.
Just think of all these beach and creek communities who benefit from anglers spending money in so many other ways other than just fishing when we come to town.
But what does the fish and wildlife do to encourage this healthy recreation?
NOTHING
Instead they encourage commercial fisheries to simply depleat the waters, while leaving anglers the occasional fish here and there.
The result?
This year is one of the worst years ever for the surf fisher.
We got bait shops lying about where the hits are so they can sell that last batch of "fresh" clams. Bloodworms are 10 bucks a dozen and wow dogfish love them.
I now freaking eat dogfish because it's all I can catch. (they are good eating by the way, when properly bled and iced, they're better than flounder). I now see guys using all types of unorthodox types of bait. Just yesterday I saw guys using chicken, beef liver and pork rinds to catch fish.
Look, all I know is that I wanna catch fish. The commercial guys are catching fish and I wanna catch fish too. If the fish and game division helps the fishing along more will benefit. Most people don't have boats, so more will fist off the shore. The more surf fishers will help out the economy of fishing comunities and so on. and that's all I gotta say about that.
This is my first post, but since I'm not working and not catching fish any where, it won't be my last.
