How many of you check fishing web sites or other personal sites while at work? If you do, how much time do you spend? Do you believe that an employer should forewarn its employees that it will moniter their web activities? If not... beware what you may find!

There is a managing partner at a law firm who was concerned about lagging productivity. He apparantly felt that the internet was the problem... based upon the constant rush to clear the screen whenever he walked by the secretarys' desks. So he installed a spy program to catch and punish the guilty.

His findings...

One secretary bought her children clothing from the GAP, when she should have been working. :rolleyes:

One partner spent more time visiting golf related sites then he billed that month. And...

One partner visited dozens and dozens of the oddest, weirdest, most vile PORN SITES on a daily basis! Who, in the world, would want to see a "Naked Granny?" :eek:

Guess which one received the written warning?

Oh... why, you may ask, that this has been posted in the Striped Bass Forum? I hit some Northern Monmouth beaches this early AM... one short.

"Naked Grannies?" As a little kid, I once mistakenly opened ( and swiftly closed) the bathroom door when my Granny was in there! You learn that door locks should be used at all times, or else permanent, life altering damage could occur. Losks protect the people on both sides of the door!

If you are the employer how would you like the employees to spend your money? I'd limit the activity to coffee breaks and lunches unless they were getting paid by commissions. Then I'd have a quota each month to reach & it wouldn't matter. No quota, no job!

No need to spy implament personal passwords and you know who is where and when then there isn't any problem because all know upfront it is monitored.

I was accussed of visiting porn sites in a large hospital system and they tracked the visits and called me in to ask why I was wasting their time on these sites. Office was locked at night so it had to be me right? Wrong they were climbing over the drop ceiling and accessing the sites at night. The brains of the group never checked my time cards before they went for the kill. I didn't work at 3am. They then started the persona access logins for the net.

Someone or some group calculated that the U.S. is losing far more money via employees using the web at work, than by all outsourcing overseas.
