For those interested or those who have heard about this style of jigging:

I posted todays report using this system plus some video from the day.

Plus, I have a written report under the reports page. What a fun way to jig. Light action rods, braided line, deep water and fish. Fun, Fun, Fun!

I saw the shimano reps push the butterfly jigs and though it looks interesting I'm not sold. Selling tackle I'm all for the need for more, but after viewing a lot of the 30 second videos I think there are many ways to catch a striper in a blitz.

it is when the going gets tough that we need a miracle.

I've got plenty ofmetal in stock and it is all a whole lot cheaper.

Hey Chris, thanks for the call on Monday for those bass, It was great to see you guys trying the butterfly jigs on those bass, we left shortly after you did but did talk to some guys that had a hard time getting those bass, I'm glad the jigs worked well for you. Capt Fred.

guatemala dave-

perfectly said and you are absolutely right about the blitz etc...In no way am I saying that this is the end all solution to jigging more fish. I would kill myself and credibility in saying so. On that particular day, we did however hold our own with every other jigger out there - even that party boat.

what i can say is that this is a much more FUN way to catch fish since the rods are so limber and light. the fish kinda runs you around a bit.

everyone has their own preferences and style to catch fish. ie. clams, topwater, jigging etc... this jigging system just adds another light tackle alternative to have more fun.

I understood that the rods have rather soft tips, but are veery strong in the but section to give a power stroke similar to a short standup rod. I believe that these are set up to pull HARD on tuna and other BIG critters where it started on the left coast.

Braided line and super high speed reels top off the system. I just have to wonder how often there really would be a chance to use this jigging style here.

GD-
you're right - it is really marketed to the offshore guys. i began using the prototypes on round valley for lakers earlier this year to some success (some days it worked and some it didn't matter). i have wanted to try for so long to use them in deeper water for bass like we did the other day.

i really liked the fact that i can get a jig to glide right and left on the way to the surface as opposed to the up and down motion of most jigs. to my knowledge - its the only one out there that can consistently glide left/right as it comes up.

as for the rod, we were using the ml and l version which was soft till the rear butt section like you said above. pulling bigger blues up through the water column was great with the rod but trying to pull a fish that wanted to go up my starboard side back to the stern and around my engine so that I could swing him in through the rear door took some doing for sure.

hey, if you want - you should come out and try it with me some time. as my wife would call it - a market research trip. boy does my wife hate that term.

let me know.
