interesting tidbit on how slow stripers grow

Check this link out on a recently caught striper with a tag in it to show how slowly a striper grows. It kind of justifies the limit of stripers we can take in a day a bit easier to me.

I didn't know.

They are starving , a 40" fish in the 70's weighed from 25 to 30lbs lbs

Fish this time of year should be fatter. Got some nice ones for charter Wednesday night outside the inlet. One in picture was close to 40 inches and was pretty thin. When cleaned it had adult butterfish and whole mussels in its stomach. Would like to see more bunker around for their diet.

Did get some nice ones earlier in the week using live adult bunker. There still are some nice ones around and lot of small ones, but with the water getting super warm, it could make catching them more difficult. Water coming in the inlet is getting near mid 70's When back bay gets to hot the bite really slows.

Nick, My little angel is always up at this time. She ends up sleeping at about 7 am if not later. Day sleeper. We are trying to keep her up during the day but she is like a wet rag as you just can't wake her up. But we are averaging about 3 hours sleep a day.

Babies are the best things in the world but is by far the hardest thing I have ever did. But is a pure joy.

yeah try and get her on a night time schedule. its hard. from the moment my son came home during the day EVERYTHING was on in the house....tv, lights, radio,etc. between 8-9pm we turned everything off and and lowered volume, talked softly,etc.
you are right..i tell people its the best thing yet the hardest thing in the world raising these little guys!

Ray nice fish there.

I gotta tell ya I have a hard time "digesting" the malnourishment thing when it comes to stripers. There is so much forage around for those fish. If they want to eat, they will eat. Those Cold Spring fish never have bunker in their guts this time of year. Blackfish, bergalls, croakers, weakfish, crabs, basically anything that swims.

They're just like us...long ones, tall ones, fat ones and small ones smile.gif

Bill, I know they eat everything. It takes a lot of everything else to fill them up like one bunker. Plugged this morning only to get 3 very small bass along the beachfront. Tried to live line some bunker to get a big one, But heavy boat traffic, sun, people fishing off the jetties and a late starting charter it was a tough morning. Bues kept chewing up the live bunker and they were all too small to swallow it. I keep seeing more and more baby flounder in striper bellies and this year I have found chopped up pieces of small flounder in the stomachs of blues.

yeah, finding good bass under those conditions ain't no walk in da park!
