Bunker Snagging/Livelining

Been seeing and hearing alot about bunker snagging and liveling lately. I know it's huge up in North Jersey off the beaches by boat in late spring/early summer. I hear they are STILL getting them there now. :eek:
We snag them in Deleware Bay all the time and then just chunk them. :confused:

What are your favorite snagging methods... hook type, tackle used, and technique?

Then how do you fish what you just snagged? Same thing... tackle used, what type of rig/hook(s) do you put those bunker on, trim any fins, etc.?

What is your success rate this way? Bigger fish? More fish? ;)

Does anyone liveline them with success in the Big Pond? :confused:

Weighted trebble hook. Once you have it snagged just let loose you bail and give the now-wounded bait fish a slow and steady amount of line. You'll feel if something grabs a hold ;)

After I snag a bunker with a spinner, I retrieve it and use a heavier rod with a drail, 3 feet of leader and an unweighted treble that I put through the back of the bunker. Send it to the bottom and then reel up a couple of cranks and wait for the run.

We snag them with weighted trebles on spinning outfits and let them sink in the pod. If nothing is under them we'll snag a few and run to a jetty. We transfer them to a J or a circle hook with no weight on a heavier outfit to turn the fish before they get into the rocks. We hook the bunker in the back, just in front of the dorsal and lob them just in front of the rocks. Leave your reel in free spool. If there are bass, they'll come to investigate within seconds. Once they take the bunker and make a run, let them go for a few seconds before setting the hook. Just be very careful of the rocks at low tide. Nothing like watching a big one take your bait on the surface.

Just like Jake965 said. Best way to catch em and a lot of fun. Past spring we were snagging 1-2lb Bunker and live lining them. When you here that reel sing you know you have a good size fish. Caught my largest bass to date this way.

Tried the same method from Avalon 8th st jetty yesterday with live herring, didnt produce a bass but one of theses days!!!!

I fish out of Belmar and we caught bass this way till the end of july.

Fall run is going to be insane!
