Yahooooooooooo ! :D :D

It's that time again.
For the benifit of our newer members i'll explain what this tread is all about.

In the spring there are incredible numbers of people who fish the deleware for several different species. In order to keep all the information relativly organized this thread was conceived. Kinda like one stop shopping. If anyone wants to start a thread about the river thats fine too, this just makes finding river information a bit easyer.
Topics discussed are not limmited to stripers , if it swims in or has anything to do with the river it's fair game on this thread.

Each week there will be a new thread started and this will last until sometime around memorial day. Of course there are still fish to be caught after memorial day but by then the major run will have subsided and that is when my efforts are spent targeting other species in the salt for the rest of the year.

Now for some details :D As many of you know the bass have arrived but not in great numbers, however they are being picked. The lower end of the river has been seeing some larger fish but most are still on the smaller size. Fish are being caught all the way up to trenton but it's still a lot of work.
The shad bite has been on at the usual spot :D ;) and today i got my first herring of the season on a sabikki, of course it was on the next to last cast of the day so it will be swimming around tommorow looking for a bass to eat it.
The river is averaging 45 degrees and the PP is at 57 or so.
As i've said in a seperate thread the PP will be shutting down for maintance in two weeks so keep that in mind if you are planning a trip there around that time.

The water is a little off color but not dirty and so far i haven't seen any major prop busters floating around in any kind of numbers.

Soooooooooooooooooo Get out and do it to it!!!!!

Fished the Delaware from 1:00 to 4:00. NADDA!!! Not even a cat. I had my 2 girls with me so there wasn't as much fishing going on as I would have hoped. However it was a beautiful afternoon. Calm, warm and not another boat in sight.

The robins are back but the sure sign of spring is the start of the river reports. I'm looking forward to a good spring. Hope to see you all out there.

I'll be out as many tues, weds and sats as I can. Usually out of Trenton or Yardley in a blue Lund - 30 hp merc starting this week.

By the way - the Pa fish and game is replacing the ramp in Yardley. They put in a 60 ft concrete ramp and even put in a breakwater to divert the river current so you don't have to point the trailer down river to retrieve the boat. Looks like it should be reopening this week. No one has been able to launch there this year yet. There are probably a lot of p'd off shad fishermen about.

I don't think they will be too upset with a new ramp ;)
It's only 10 or more years over due. Now we can launch witout driving half way out in the river :D

Was in the area so I did some recon.

At a spot north of DOD and near the CBB a 36" striper was taken by Jimmy @ 12:45 pm on bloods. Sorry Jimmy I forgot your last name. L something? Nice Italian guy.

Went to DOD next, water temp was 45. I was told it was 42 this morning. I saw 1 small catfish and a small striper (14") taken around 2:00 pm on bloods.

The tide was ebb.

It was getting really cold out there. Dress warm.

Oh, while I was at the 'other' spot north of DOD a DRBA cop showed up at the location and made comments about the recent increase in garbage. Seems they will be kicking fishermen out with the ATV users if it continues since it's technically private property.

I think its pretty much closed indefinately due to supposed structural damage to the wall there.

3/29 - Report from Mark Boriek, NJDFW Fisheries Biologist

The commercial gill netter in the upper bay off of the Cohansey River drifted 800 feet of the light gauge (A. shad can detect heavy gauge monofilament) monofilament for one mile. His net was ripped up by striped bass, although he did catch 100 of them that he released. Caught a total of 7 A. shad in the ends of the net. There are so many stripers that they fill the net first, the larger ones tearing through it. The shad avoid the entangled stripers, swimming the length of it and escape around the ends, a few are caught there.

If anyone can get some live herring the fish are definately around the upper tidal areas.

Geting herring around trenton is brutaly hard at this time but it's rather early. If you can import them from elsewhere your gonna have some fun.

Fished a pond next to the river, jersey side, got a small largemouth, talked to a guy that got a 30" striper in the river.
