Wow, what a day, I had the Mike Welch group out today for stripers, and it was a banner day! We ran up to a spot east of Roamer to try clamming first. We boxed a couple of fish there, and released a few shorts, but it was not the kind of fishing I was looking for. After about an hour and a half of drowning clams, I told the group to crank in the lines and we gave trolling a try. As soon as we started trolling we started catching ! We were using bunker spoons, umbrella rigs, and a Stretch plug, and as we worked our way down the hook we started bailing big bass and small blues Best fish of the day was a 40 inch, 32 lb striper. After trolling down the hook we moved to the area north of the rocks and the bite continued. We ended up catching our limit on bass, used our bonus tags and were done fishing around noon time when the front moved through and the wind started cranking up. It was a good time to call it quits. It was a great day with a terrific group, a real pleasure to be out there running the boat today.
